  • Epic vs. Apple takes new turn as 34 US states & DOJ side with 'Fortnite' maker

    Some people STILL want to cry "get an android if you don't like it" when they don't realize the the Playstore has the same issue and these states are going to apply any possible regulation to BOTH stores.
    Define what you mean by "issue". Pricing? Selection? Compared to what? Desktop/laptop operating systems? Consoles?

    I think that’s a reference to the fact Google Play takes a similar cut from in-app purchases. There’s an ongoing suit and counter-suit between Epic and Google about that. Not sure about its current status.
    Yep, issue has been about the 30% cut that both app stores are mandating. I get it from both sides. Both stores are ABSOLUTELY entitled to a cut and there's no denying that. What they've accomplished has changed the way we live our lives. However, they've both become such a large economy in and of themselves that they now demand regulation. Far too many developers (both small and large) rely on the the app stores to survive and the fact that it's a duopoly merits the discussion of regulation. I don't agree with Epic of allowing separate app purchases as that would mean that Apple/Google wouldn't get anything in exchange for maintaining their respective platforms. But an almost THIRD of their income is very excessive. And what's even worse is that it's not fair amongst even large companies considering apps like Amazon don't pay ANYTHING outside of the $100 dev fee.

    What would you say if your local gas station wasn't regulated? "Just use electric cars if you don't like the outrageous prices gas station owners would surely raise their prices to, or good old fashioned horses!"

  • Apple working on tech to allow iPhones to directly process credit cards

    Interesting.  Presumably there would be fees, but there would be reductions/bonuses on one or both sides if a customer uses Apple Pay, Apple Pay Cash or Apple Card to pay a vender using the Apple [insert branding here].

    Does the iPad have the NFC capability?  I see lots of stores using the iPad as the cashier terminal; if it could also deliver the payment processing in a single unit then.  The cellular connection of the iPhone isn't needed is it?  Could also be a case for an updated iPod touch.
    There will be fees as that is how credit cards work. The recipient always pays. I doubt individuals will be able to accept CC’s. There is far too much paperwork required due to money laundering and fraud concerns. I’d expect to pay at least 2.75% skim which is around what Square, PayPal and others charge. A lot of people do not realize that card perks come out of the merchants pockets. CC companies are not giving anything away.
    A lot of people people do not realize that credit card fees come out of the customers pockets. Even when you’re paying cash, as most merchants mark up EVERYTHING to offset those fees.

  • Apple remains world's most valuable brand, but Amazon is hot on its heels

    Amazon a valuable brand? In my head, Amazon is a sales intermediary. Wow really remarkable to sells others eggs beaters and yoga mats! Laughing ߘ⦡mp;nbsp;
    The article is about "valuable brand", as in brand recognition. The only reason Amazon isn't number one is because it's not available globally. I'd wager Amazon (because of prime) is a more valuable brand in the US then Apple is at this point. Amazon has become synonymous with shopping now, and it's exactly because of "eggs beaters and yoga mats". Now anytime someone needs/wants to buy something, most people go straight to Amazon without thinking about stepping a foot out the door.

    Anytime I think about buying an electronic device online (laptop/phone/tablet/watch/etc) I go to Apple, but when I think about buying ANYTHING ELSE I go to Amazon. Wait, the last AirPods I bought was on Amazon 😂

  • A Virginia woman has been stalking Tim Cook for more than a year

    This is a direct consequence of society’s cowardice in not making sure people get the medication that they need. It’s not compassionate to let someone refuse treatment (when their disorder prevents them from having the insight to accept treatment), then go on to ruin their lives, and possibly others. Same
    thing is happening to thousands of homeless people. Society is failing our severely mentally ill population.
    First hand experience with a sibling. Because they're an adult we have no power to ensure they take the medications needed. Once stoped they go into a rabid state of accusing everyone of conspiring against them. The smallest thing (offering to go out to lunch) would cause a trigger. Once triggered it's nothing but constant threats and harassment. We're paying for their home/bills to ensure they don't end up in the streets, but constant fights with neighbors means they'll get evicted and in the streets anyway. We're devastated and powerless.

    Mental health is completely and utterly ignored in this country.
