  • HomeKit Secure Video bug means thumbnails can show outdated views

I've got 9 camera feeds via 3 different sources. One is via HomeBridge which connects up to my Ring doorbell. That one is somewhat consistent, but the "Talk" feature is very laggy. It's an unsupported setup so I rarely rely on it. The second is also via HomeBridge which connects up to my UniFi controller with 3 cameras. That one is the most consistent (although also unsupported). The last one is my Eufy setup which is ironically supported, but the most unreliable. Cameras are constantly going offline and the only way to get them to reconnect is a factory reset. This is a HomeKit issue as whenever any camera is offline in HomeKit it's still available in the 3rd party app.

Now every camera shows a "now" thumbnail that's just black. Previously that now label would start counting up to indicate how old the thumbnail is. Now it's just sitting at "now"

  • Intel's Alder Lake chips are very powerful, and that's good for the entire industry

If I plug in a desktop and monitor into a generator, I bet I can beat even those numbers. Better yet, a gallon of gas in that generator would likely power the rig for 24 hours. Beat that Intel!

Seriously, intel is starting (as in started a few years ago) to sound desperate.

  • M1 Max MacBook Pro supply more constrained than M1 Pro, analyst says

Well worth the wait. Been using my 16" M1 Max and it's an absolute beast. Going back to my original 12" PowerBookG4, the switch over to the original 2006MacBookPro was a modest bump at best. Kept that till 2012 when the original retinaMBP came out. Even though it was a 6 year upgrade it didn't feel like a drastic jump. Noticeable, but nothing crazy. Same experience when I jumped to the 2016MBP. Even less of a change when I went to the 2019MBP (upgraded just because I couldn't stand that god awful keyboard anymore). Jump 2 years later and this is the shortest gap of an upgrade I've EVER done and somehow it's the most revolutionary. Apple Silicon is insane!!! Bravo Apple

  • Class action lawsuit alleges Google pays Apple to stay out of the search engine market

I guess Apple could just NOT default to a search engine and prompt the user to choose one during setup. But then we’d have the same argument regarding the default browser, email client, messages app, etc. The setup process would become a laborious hour long process.

ORRRRR, Apple can just default to whatever they want and continue to give the user the option to change to whatever they want after initial setup. If the user can’t figure out how to change the default, then they likely don’t care enough to change it in the first place. Unless of course the user is a lawyer trying to cash in.

  • HomeKit bug affecting iOS disclosed by security researcher

What’s considered a “very long string”? Pretty certain most people aren’t using anywhere near 500k characters for HomeKit device names. That’s such a ridiculous number to test with. Why not 100, 1k, 100k, all of which are still absurdly high. And who accepts HomeKit invites from people they don’t know?
