iPhone SE reportedly 'squeezing' marketshare from Chinese smartphone makers
sog35 said:Good job Apple.
With the SE there is a great new iPhone for $399.
Now Apple needs to get iOS on phones from $100-$300. To do that they should license iOS light version to selected manufacters.
If Apple plays its cards right it can get 50% market share of the smartphone market.
Apple should charge the greater of $20 or 15% license fee per phone. They could probably sell 600,000,000 licensed phones a year.
600,000,000 x $30 license fee = $18 billion in almost pure profit
I just wonder if those other phones would have all sorts of performance issues and incompatibilities with the hardware or software.
I'm not sure putting their iOS on other phones is a good idea, doubt they would ever do it. -
Apple adds muscle in Washington with hire of White House insider
It's about time. They need an army of lobbyists. I know this goes against their basic sensibilities and seems totally unnecessary for making great products. However, they can't make great things if they are harassed by the government as well as the usual flakes and a zillion court cases. It is so apparent that the govt loathes Apple for some reason/s. I really don't understand the DOJ at all! Apple is the flagship corporate ambassador of America!! Perhaps when the current administration leaves office we can see some light shed on this. Remember, Obama has been in office since 2008, almost all of Apple's best years. I now think they were best years in spite of this govt. The SEC should have been all over some of the financial aspects of the stock market itself, but is underfunded or incompetent or crooked. My family for one, would like to see some of the value of the stock unleashed. AAPL seems to belong to the hedge fund guys. I often wonder how it is that the stock seems to go up and down in what looks to me like a controlled manner. The other big tech stocks seem to bounce around on impulse. Those of us who have a lot of the stock are so tired of the negative headlines and %40 crashes every two years. There are lots of stocks I follow and none are so trashed as Apple is. -
Justice Department asserts it could demand source code, signing key from Apple
Okay. This whole encryption debate has gone on too long in my opinion. The logic never made ANY sense. It is crazy stuff. I have to start looking deeper for "why".It is a transparent fact that weakening the security of iOS will affect everyone, it would destroy our personal device's security. Which would greatly increase law enforcement's workload chasing finance crime, extortion, etc.Equally transparent is the fact that the criminals have lots of crypto software alternatives or could write their own, since it is Mathematics that enables it. Can't outlaw math. So, if it won't change the future in terms of encrypted criminal communications, and if it would increase the amount of crime and fraud, thenWHAT THE HELL IS THIS CASE ABOUT?????You know, I'm getting the idea that the US simply HATES Apple. I would like to know why they have it in for this company so bad. Just look at the hassles Apple has been going through with the Justice Dept. in the past couple years. What is the reason for all of this ire directed at Apple?1. Maybe they haven't spent enough money lobbying/schmoozing the govt?2. Maybe encryption debate is a lie to get bad guys to use their iPhones to talk when govt knows nsa really can get in?3. Maybe Eric Schmidt is pulling strings against a competitor as a part of new nsa technology group ?( he was appointed around same time)4. Maybe the military industrial complex has an angle I can't imagine?5. Maybe the nsa really can't help them get in?6. Maybe this is a counterintelligence story directed at some other govt?7. What precedent? Clipper Chip failed in the 90s. End-run around Congress via the courts?
9. This is step one before they destroy all our liberties, and they expect it will be resolved with another attack of some sort.Feel free to add your own paranoid ideas. It is time to start looking at reasons for Apple's woes other than those the govt claims and Wall Street bs. The more ideas the better. I eagerly await your replies, and a million others. -

Court overturns Apple's $120M patent win against Samsung
We are all beginning to wonder how far law enforcement can reach in this privacy debate. It's honestly starting to look like they may even have some reach on the stock exchanges also. How is it possible to do that? Apple needs to spend more lobbying congress like the rest of tech does and they need some voice over on the stock exchanges as well. That is not what a straightforward company like them wants to ever do, but it is necessary now. Look at Amazon and Google, they both have people at the top who are well connected with Wall Street. Seriously, it's astonishing how the price of this stock moves, or lately--hardly moves at all. It's like there is a big ol clamp on AAPL. To the others here, what's your paranoid theory on AAPL?
