Biden will ban TikTok unless Chinese owner ByteDance sells it
blastdoor said:netrox said:It just makes no sense. When you're on social media, CCP has access to many details about you. What makes TikTok different?
Right now, companies like Meta surreptitiously harvest data and use it for targeted advertising. Not ideal, but not a direct threat to national security.
Tik-Tok, on the other hand, surreptitiously harvests data and sends it to the CCP for purposes unknown (but reasonably presumed harmful).
so it's not like our personal data is safe with American companies either.
remember, YOU are the product of any social media company, not FB, Instagram etc

so the CCP knows I like big knockers and cars?
im ok with that -
Biden signs TikTok bill into law as Chinese firm threatens legal action
I would much rather the Chinese have my personal data than the US social media companies that have been shown to sell this data to the government.
the risk of the US government having all this data about me is much bigger to me, than the Chinese communist party
i live in the US, not in china
oh and this means we are now imitating china in banning TikTok, since they banned it first
yay freedom!

If you have an iPhone with AT&T, there's a good chance your info has been stolen
quazze said:I hope there’s a civil lawsuit that goes into effect. Corporations should be held liable and accountable if my personal information is stolen from their possession.
yet the vast majority of American companies get hacked , and all we get is "oops my bad"
And all that stolen data is sold to the highest bidder, including the Chinese
so banning tiktok isn't about protecting our data now is it ? -
Apple cites bevy of scared users to back up its case against the EU DMA
why can't there be a setting in the Settings app, same as android now
"allow untrusted sources?" or "Allow apps not from Apple App store?"
with a brief description of the risks, and you click yes or no?
if you keep the default no, its the same setup you have now. nothing but apple app store
if you click yes, then you can get what you want, anywhere you want it from, but then apple can see you accepted those terms, and if anything bad happens to the phone (infection etc)
they are not at fault and say , you agreed to these terms
