  • Apple releases another new slight AirTags firmware revision

I bought a 4-pack of them, had the custom icons/letters placed on them before they shipped. All four were placed into service at more or less the same time.

One is on a different firmware number from the other three, and none of them are sporting the firmware update numbers from last week or this week.

So, yeah—Apple may want to take a look at the haphazard way these seem to be updating the firmware if the change is deemed critical to function.

  • Bill Maher declares Apple CSAM tools a 'blatant constitutional breach'

For Apple to be this bad at damage control is very off-brand.

Just about everything Maher said was incorrect, but it will be passed around as gospel because Apple has done such a poor job getting the fact of the case out. It is time for full-page ads and volunteering to be on shows like 60 Minutes where it can broadcast the details of this feature which (A) has to be opted-in, and (B) which is to be used by parents who have minor children on their same family account. Nothing here about “snooping in the private photos” of adult users.

It is no small amount of irony that misinformation about Apple’s plan will be spread on Facebook, where privacy is an abstract concept and personal information has long since been mined and sold for profit. But that same person will have white knuckles from clutching the pearls so tightly.

  • Apple's new Siri Remote for Apple TV gets firmware update

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have two of these and both constantly lose and regain connection to ATV. The little bug appears in upper right of screen each time it happens. I have to frequently re-pair the remote to regain control. Certainly hoping a firmware update resolves this.

  • 2021 Apple TV 4K versus 2017 Apple TV 4K - Who should buy the new model, and who should no...

It took a long time to get my wife to use ATV 4K box because she hated the remote. But she came around when she realized how much faster the ATV is in switching apps or cuing up a show, relative to the “smart” TVs the ATVs are connected to. The combination of the native memory (even the 32 meg) and the A12 Bionic processor makes for a much faster experience than using the smarts built into the TV.

With iPhone 12 devices we can stream the family videos we take directly via AirPlay, and the new box’s ability to show 60fps will be nice.

  • Ecosia now a default search engine option on iOS, iPadOS, macOS

    Beats said:
What a sh**tty name but wow what a company. Would be cool if it become more popular than Bing. Can't see it becoming bigger than Google with that name, same for DuckDuckGo.
If I asked you a question and you answered me, YOU would be more popular than Bing. Microsoft has spent billions on it, it is the default engine in IE and Edge shipped on millions of Windows PCs, and Bing has slightly more than 1% of the search business.
