  • Apple warns developers it will pull apps without recent updates from the App Store

If only Apple cared this much about obvious clone or scam apps.

Apple failed in it’s promise to justify gatekeeping iOS.  It’s past time for them to offer side loading and alternate app stores.   Maybe with some real competition they will do something really meaningful to make the iOS app store useful?

  • Insteon dies, Matter update, Playdate review on the HomeKit Insider podcast

Yikes.  Insteon never did make sense - zwave kit was cheaper and has a far wider variety of stuff.  Insteon reminded me of IBMs reaction to the clone market with the PS/2 and microchannel.  To their credit Insteon held out longer than the PS/2 or microchannel

  • New iMac Pro and M3 iMac coming, but not in 2022

Most consumers don’t read AI so this information generally won’t stop them from buying when they want to.

Of course, all of us care and we know new products are always on the horizon. Problem is I want to replace my iMac 2015 one more time while I still have an interest in computers and the constant new products give me heartburn trying to decide when to spend money on one last, almost full-blown Mac. Please tell me the M1 Max will not be EOL’d in the next 10 years (software wise) and I would be comfortable with the new, base model Mac Studio (of course with more storage and maybe memory) and the Studio Display.
My mom’s 27” iMac was long past expiration and frankly she was much happier with the Mac Studio/Studio Display option anyway.  Until we noted the same Mac Studio configuration in 14” MacBook Pro form was only $300 more - so now she has a 14” MacBook Pro instead of a Mac Studio behind her Studio display.  Built in battery back up and portable when she needs it.  With the power efficiency of the M1 chips there is zero downside to having your primary machine be a laptop now - so that’s the path she ended up going down!

  • Pegasus used to infect iPhones owned by Catalonian officials

Ugh - wish there was a way to just disable SMS texts.  Nothing but spam and malware - utterly useless.  Many of these exploits don't even require you to view the message in messages - just your phone receiving them was enough to launch the exploit.

It boggles my mind that after all these years input validation and sanitization still sucks.  That programmers resist things like type-safe languages because it takes more up front work.  Well duh!  It's a shitshow out there.  It didn't matter as much when machines weren't networked; yet crap still spread via disk.  Now computers are networked but "computer science" has advanced relatively little in cleaning this crap up.

I'm far from a big government type of person, but I am a pragmatist. I think it's far beyond time to start treating computer science like professional engineering.  No more EULAs hand waving all responsibility for software quality away.  Individuals should be required to sign off on software builds - especially for critical systems like operating systems - just like engineers have to sign off on and are personally liable for plans.

    Enough is enough.

Does anyone know if this can be used with a PC?
This is the LG 5K in an aluminum shell.
This is nothing like the LG 5K display - not sure why people feel compelled to spout such nonsense.
Except that it is a 5K 27” panel made by LG, so it is something like it.
It's A panel made by LG - LG doesn't offer the coatings Apple does.
    LG isn't offering the camera.
    LG isn't offering the speakers.
LG isn't offering the connectivity options.
And yes, LG isn't offering the stand options either.

But yeah, other than that, they are completely the same :open_mouth:
    Note that I said *panel*.
And how do you know the *panel* is exactly the same?   There haven't been any improvements in backlights?  LCD response time?

    Zero?   Seriously?
