Verizon planning $20 upgrade fee even for customers of Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program, leak suggest
jm6032 said:I wish I could leave Verizon, but the other carriers just don't have the same coverage. T-Mobile seems to be the best out of the big 4 carriers for not gouging customers. T-Mobile's coverage sucks though outside of metro areas. It is tempting to switch since T-Mobile has free international data and voice. -
Apple claims reversal of $120M verdict against Samsung violates US Constitution
sog35 said:I've been saying this for YEARS:
Apple needs to make more political contributions. Not to get 'favors' but just to get treated fairly.
As an Apple shareholder I see no problem with Apple spending a few hundred million on political contributions.
Which is it? Are you a shareholder or not? Enquiring minds want to know. Or just me. Whatever. -
US Supreme Court to tackle money owed in Apple v. Samsung patent fight
leavingthebigg said:I will not be surprised to see the Supreme Court rule against Apple for this case. With the DOJ and FBI solidly against Apple, an honest review of this case will not be given. I expect a decision to be made and announced in less than 30 days.
And just because they accept an application for review doesn't at all correlate to which position they will rule for. They could also rule that design and trade dress are protectable under laws and that obvious copying creates liability. -
Apple, US prosecutors to present and cross-examine witnesses at iPhone encryption hearing
jkichline said:For the record, I am siding with Apple on this because I believe they are taking the correct stance. But I believe there is a way to do this that would provide the government what is required with compensation to Apple and a way to protect and secure the operating system.
The problem with that position is that it's pre-supposes some technical solution that solves all interests. Yet no one who actually is a cryptographer holds that view. The popular label has become the Golden Key Wizard Society. It's the thing people wish existed but doesn't.
It's ok. You can hold a position while accepting there are negative consequences. No need to pretend they don't exist. -
Apple, FBI battle a wedge issue for American voters, poll shows

However...
To equate Republicans and Democrats on this topic is rather disingenuous. There are obviously people from all political views who both agree and disagree with the two viewpoints in this situation. But from a statistical view, it's not balanced and actually is skewed the opposite direction as you insinuate. According to the NBC/WSJ poll released today, the following stats come out:
"Republicans favored the government’s position 57% to 37%, while Democrats sided with Apple 50% to 40%. Strongest support for Apple was among independent voters, who back Apple by a 2-to-1 ratio, at 58% to 28%." - 9to5Mac
This is exactly the type of issue where people from different political leanings can appreciate common ground.
