  • Former Apple CDO Jony Ive helped design the 24-inch iMac

So is that why it only comes with 2/4 USB-C ports?
The ports are my biggest/only real complaint with the new iMac. I’ve never thought that having all of the ports on the back was a good idea. Put at least one or two on the side so they’re accessible. aAnd limiting the low end Mac to just 2 ports??? It’s not a laptop; you can’t even make a half-assed space or power excuse. I’d also like to see at least one USB A port. Even 6 years after Apple declared ‘USB C is the future’ USB A is still incredibly common. My new Apple TV came with a USB A charging cable last week.
Considering that, unlike a laptop, power comes into the iMac through its own port, and both the keyboard and mouse are wireless, two ports seems plenty adequate for home users. Pro users should find four to be fine, especially since wired Ethernet doesn’t consume a port either. Thunderbolt docks are widely available to handle the edge cases.

  • Amazon's Eero 6 router lineup gets HomeKit support

Apple was the best for a long time, my guess is they are waiting for all the changes to take place and will develop a system in the future.

Wish I could agree with you, but it's pretty clear that Apple took a decision that routers aren't a core part of its business – hence the axe. A contributing factor was the impending arrival of mesh systems, which would have required a significant resource commitment to develop. Then at the low end, most people are using the default cable company wireless router.

I'm still using a pair of final model Airport Extremes at home, and another pair at work. Best routers ever, and they still get occasional firmware updates. But the writing is on the wall for their eventual replacement. I see a WiFi 6 capable mesh network in my future.

  • Apple's moves point to a future with no bootable backups, says developer

Booting from a Thunderbolt SSD enclosure is an important way to avoid the SSD prices Apple charges. I guess they are trying to stifle this option.
You need to put your paranoia back in its box. The percentage of Mac users who buy and prep external backup TB drives must be beyond tiny — not even a tiny spec on Apple's horizon. (And I say that despite being one of them.)

  • Apple details Apple Card Family features and restrictions

"Apple explains credit reporting in a separate section of the support document.

'Information about the Apple Card Family account, such as payment history and credit utilization, are is reported to credit bureaus and shown in credit bureau reports for account owners and co-owners.' "

Unusual for Apple to make an elementary grammar error like that.

  • Compared: Apple's second-generation Siri Remote versus predecessors

I’m amazed at how little care some of you commenters seem to take of your stuff. Losing the remote inside your couch or under a stack of stuff, crunching it in a recliner mechanism, etc. Don’t you have a place to keep these things, or are you planning an appearance on that TV show about hoarders?
