  • Apple may have a solution for fraying Lightning cables

I've owned an iPhone since the 3G model and never had one of my Apple branded Lightning cables fail. My opinion is that people just abuse them. On the other hand, Apple should probably realize that this is going to happen, and take that into account with a more robust design.

I have repaired a couple at the office using heat-shrink sleeving to provide extra strain relief. Works fine, cheap and easy to do.

  • H. Moser & Cie sends up Apple Watch with $30,800 mechanical clone

It's a rather fine joke, but you do have to have an expensive sense of humor to enjoy it to the full.

Moser is one of the relatively few Swiss watch manufacturers to design and make its own mechanical movements in-house. They only produce about 1500 watches a year, which explains the price. Beautiful stuff.

Every time someone posts “Apple Glass” (a name Apple would NEVER use) my eyes roll up and I sigh heavily.
With products named the 'magic keyboard' and 'magic mouse' I reckon that you have no grounds upon which to sigh heavily!

So agree with that! I can't even think the term "Magic Keyboard" without rolling my eyes.

  • Apple plans thinner, high-end MacBook Air

I'm not sure if a higher end MacBook Air is really possible unless Apple wants to add the fan back. That would be disappointing. Sure they can add features like a second external monitor but there really isn't much else missing and the power vs cooling for a fanless design is going to limit how much more performance they can wring out of this 5nm generation of Apple Silicon.
Now that the M1 SOC has enabled it, I'm betting that a fanless design will be one of the distinguishing features of the MBA into the future. This will ensure the Air's reduced size and weight compared to the MBP, and off course help battery life a bit too. Those cooling fans don't run on, well, air.

The Air could stand to go on a weight loss diet though. A good target would be under 2.5 lb, instead of the current 2.8 lb.

  • Apple delays Face ID for 2021 iMac

It is always exciting to see new products being released but its always in the back of my mind that something even better will be along soon.
    Beware of the Osborne Effect.
