  • Samsung's Apple Studio Display competitor is now available in the US

    That looked interesting right until I got to the $1599 price, at which it’s a hard pass. 

    We have lots of Samsung monitors at the office, and their design and manufacturing quality are nowhere near those of Apple. The same applies to the 32" Samsung M8 monitor/TV in front of me right now, which uses a similar chassis to the S9.

    This 27" ViewFinity (really?) S9 needs to be under a grand or forget it.

    With regard to the battery and its location, I suspect that with its bigger and higher resolution internal displays, the extra front display, and the computing power needed to manage the more numerous sensors, the Vision Pro likely has higher power requirements than the Meta product. If so, then a larger on-head battery likely would have been impractical for Apple. 

    I don’t see this as a disadvantage. The Vision Pro isn’t intended for wandering around in public, so who cares if there’s a tethered battery? It could easily fit into some kind of a belt holster if necessary.

    It’s worth reminding ourselves that Verizon is in the business of selling cellular services, not giving away non-cellular devices. It’s not surprising, therefore, that the iPads and Apple Watches they’re promoting are those that will generate ongoing revenue for Verizon.

    That doesn’t excuse Verizon for any attempts to film-flam their customers, but it should help to set realistic expectations.
