  • Passenger's AirTag tracks 8,000km detour of Air Canada luggage

Package tracking is nearly flawless for companies like FedEx. Airlines should be mandated to provide the same type of tracking. Each time a bag code is scanned, the customer can be notified proactively, and the activity placed onto a tracking log that the customer can check at any time. This is such common sense, it's a wonder why airlines don't offer it yet.

Monday, Jan 16, 3:33pm — Bag scanned at Check-In Count
Monday, Jan 16, 3:40pm — Bag scanned for loading aboard Flight XYZ
Monday, Jan 16, 3:45pm — Bag loaded aboard Flight XYZ
    ... etc.

FedEx’s business is moving packages, so to be successful they have no choice but to do it well. For the airlines, on the other hand, baggage handling is a necessary evil that costs them money. If they could find a way not to have to do it, they would.

That said, I’ve been flying for many decades and can assure you that baggage handling is much more reliable than it used to be. This is because of technological innovations such as bar coding and automated scanning.

  • OWC's Thunderbolt Go Dock has built-in power supply & 11 ports

We have a couple of dozen laptop docks of various brands, including OWC. This new OWC dock's built-in power power supply would be very welcome in reducing the number of power supply boxes and their trailing wires. But what's really needed in this product category is a $250 price, and definitely not a bump up to $400.

Considering how much laptop you can get for a grand, $400 just for a dock is, well, insulting.

  • Netflix lets you kick freeloading users off your streaming account

I don’t have Netflix anymore as I’m not paying their top price for a single 4k device.

That said, everyone I know who uses Netflix also shares their subscription with other households so Netflix do have a big problem…
Netflix could easily cut back on some of the sharing through technical means, but I suspect they don't want to piss off their users.

This is one way for Netflix to get the account owners to do some of the dirty work for them. Smart move.

  • Level Lock+ HomeKit smart lock can be picked open in seconds

The Level uses your existing lock cylinder, which by definition remains as secure, or insecure, as it was before.

As a satisfied electronic lock (August) user for a while now, I'd suggest in the strongest terms that setting it to lock automatically is not something one should do. That goes double if you don't live alone...and don't plan to.

Holy crap! How much would this weigh? Put handles on the sides?
Yeah, and a couple of cupholders. It'll make a great cafeteria tray.
