  • IBM's 200,000 Macs have made a happier, more productive workforce

As we all already could have predicted but nice to see in print.
Not surprised at all!    I work in a MS only workplace and see what the support people go through and frankly I suspect even Linux would be dramatically less trouble.    The biggest problem with Apple in the corporate world, especially manufacturing, is suitable hardware.   The Mac Mini is not a universal solution and all in ones are completely unacceptable.  I still don’t think Apple gets it but then again neither do many corporate IT managers

And for my own personal business I have no issue with my new iMac AIO and it’s kickass 5K display, it’s incredible sharp and less expensive than buying a stand-alone plus 4+ K monitor.
Looks at his superb Phillips IPS 43” 4k monitor (not tv) that is nearly 1/5th the price of the cheapest iMac 27” 5k and is glad he spent the time researching this matter.

that said he also realises only a mac mini, mac pro or a mac laptop will plug in. which while diverse does not quite hit the price/power of the iMac hardware.

if you are ever wanting a second screen, i would recommend it for your iMac.

  • Facebook app accesses iPhone camera without user's knowledge

Facebook needs to be shut down and zuckerburg should be in the gray bar hotel!
not before larry, curly and moe from alphabet are decimated for profiting from scams, spam, hate, violence, gambling, showing sexualised content to minors and grooming minors to be addicts.

  • Qualcomm hints 5G iPhone coming in 2020, analysts say

Part of the reasons why I bought an iPhone this year is that I did NOT want 5G .......
    Is this like anti-spec envy?
if he is like me (i also bought this year’s iPhone) then he knows that 5G tech and network is going to be expensive, heavy and crappy for a couple years.

next year it will be coupled to a new design with flaws and nearly theres, this will refine over 3 years (as the 2 year S cycle is done with) until the 2022 iPhone, which will be like the 11Pro is now, a total monster with everything tuned to perfection.

by then 5G will be rolled out, prices for access will have normalised, it will have had improvements in range etc, Apple will have it integrated instead of it wasting space and power with some shitty Qualcomm clunker: and I won’t have to begrudgingly see too much of my money go to Qualcomm.

either that or they are worried about what having a mm wave grid covering our cities in density will mean. there is a lot of FUD about that, which seems in my mind to distract from what such a network might do and might be worth being concerned about.

  • Apple said to partner with Valve to make AR headset

A report claims that Apple is working with game distributor Valve

Valve wouldn't be providing the VR experiences itself, but could use the Steam distribution system to distribute them. .
Rather than AR as the focus Apple will be targeting VR uses like gaming, just the opposite of what has been reported in the past couple of years??
I remember Mr Cook not all that long ago arguing that augmented reality is preferable to virtual reality. Partnering with a gaming company on the development seems at odds with that.
Quite the opposite actually. AR in many respects is even better for gaming. With even more immersive potential, less issues with disconnected movement sickness and more.

from multiplayer, to board games, to interactive stories, alt reality tie ins (such as marvel or star wars), next level or virtualised existing sports, first person shooting - AR is going to be better, healthier, more engaging and self promoting.

not so much for vehicle simulators
The AI article implies it will involve VirtualReality.
no it doesn’t. it merely says valve and apple have done some things in the recent past.
