the obvious choice to me is subscription computing. $3/day for a macbookpro, upgraded yearly.
then they offer one model but 3 years of that model at $3, $2 and $1 a day.
same with air etc. you can buy a family subscription with a pro and two airs for example. could be as low as $3 a day. -

My keyboard backlight has always turned on prior to the login screen and i'm on catalina
