Doctor ignores default iOS parental controls, child racks up $1,800 in in-app purchases
sflocal said:This is a symptom of a bigger problem and that is adults not taking responsibility for their irresponsibility. Good luck with that lawsuit. He must be a crappy doctor if he can't afford that that bill, but he seems to have enough money to file a frivolous lawsuit. That being said, I will say one thing... After years of not playing games, COVID had me re-addressing that and began looking at some video games on my iPhone. I will say one thing for sure... 99 out of 100 games are absolute crap. They all have the same general play, and the amount of in-game advertising - borderline harassment - that these developers insert to get anywhere in the game without paying a fee to advance in some way is inexcusable. This is a very bad evolution in game design and Apple truly should be ashamed for allowing such garbage to occur. I would gladly pay money for games that do not constantly shove ads and ask me to spend money all the time.A part of me wants a lawsuit against Apple to disallow such scams, because that is what it is. Adults generally know better, but these games are addictive towards children and they are designed to trick them. No doubt. The parent should have known better.Meanwhile - Of course there's no "headlines" over on Android. Hmmm... -

Apple's Eddy Cue says Spatial Audio is a 'game-changer' for music
rcfa said:Most people never heard of lossless? Really?
Anyone who’s ever heard of these silver discs calls “CD”s has heard of lossless.
Only Napster, music piracy in conjunction with slow internet, metered cellular data and expensive flash memory brought us the “blessings” of lossy audio compression algorithms.
So, no, lossless isn’t “niche”, it was and should always be the normal case, lossy compression should be the exception. -
Apple Maps overhaul includes time-based directions, more detailed maps
entropys said:Yes, considering Google maps is already there as an example, the roll out of features is quite glacial.By the time the feature becomes available, imagery is out of date and Apple needs to think about starting again. This new maps is actually a ground up version started what, two years ago. Keep in mind the Android mobile map app was not released until a year after it was co-developed with Apple on the iphone. Apple never wanted to be a maps company but was forced into it. The biggest mistake these companies make is undermining partnerships with Apple. They prefer to focus on what they do in their core business, but when they don’t have a choice they will learn your market and crush it for you. This is a case of waking the bear. It’s like an invitation to come compete in my space.Never force Apple to get serious about your market. Before the rewrite it Maps was an update to what was co-created with Google but aggregated data from a lot of 3rd parties. Once they understood making they rebuilt it from the ground up. So it has taken them 3 years to do nearly catch Google who had a 12-13 year head start systematically mapping the world.Search is likely next. -
