  • Apple Silicon Macs are needed for consumers and pro users alike

Windows is a requirement for me.  There’s no way around it and Apple makes the best Windows machine around for my use case.   I use VMware and it was the primary reason I jumped to Apple way back when.

It’s exciting stuff for sure.  I was planning on buying a new iMac this year, but now I’m going to pause on that to see what’s coming and how the market reacts to it.

Give it up, Intel. You can't win this time. Though the fact that they dedicated a chip solely to Apple...
I bet you there will be some people out there will try to persuade apple to License the chip to other hardware vendors. I wonder if the apple soc is capable of running windows natively?
Windows runs under the x86(64) architecture, so no.  ARM is an entirely different architecture.  For now, I suspect it will be a cold day in Hell before Intel ever grants Apple a license to use x86(64), but I suppose stranger things have happened.  AMD is the only one allowed, and even then Intel took AMD to court (and lost) to stop it due to some archaic agreement that I think Intel regrets to this day.

  • Microsoft President calling for antitrust review of Apple App Store

I distinctly remember Microsoft forcing PC makers to pay a Windows license fee for machines that did not have Windows installed, and this asshat has the audacity to say things are worse now?

The big difference is that what happened to Microsoft was well deserved.   Microsoft is just having a hissy-fit that it's no longer in the game anymore.

Thank goodness that Apple did not wither away and came back from the brink to bring choice and security back to what was a dismal, Wild West.

    Jealous haters.

  • Tile accuses Apple of antitrust behavior in letter to EU regulators

Tile's huge flaw is that it requires other Tile users to have an app running in order for it to work outside the range of the original owner's iPhone.

Apple's method essentially bakes tracking into iOS itself so all it needs is an iPhone near the vicinity of an AirTag, anywhere an iPhone exists.  That's huge.  It's why I don't use Tile's product.  I want to be able to essentially track my tag anywhere and that's where Tile's product fails.

Tile is basically struggling to remain relevant.  Apple is (and should be) allowed to make it's own competing products and provide user choice.  It seems that Tile is complaining more about being restricted (rightfully so) by Apple in regards to how it uses location data of the user, and not the Tile tags.

I'm a huge Apple fan, but blind fandom is just as irritating.  Look at all the reviews of this monitor.  Sure, looks great when staring straight at it, but the monitor being so big, one is going to be seeing the edges at an angle and it's fair to say the monitor gets a bit washed out when viewed from an angle.  This is a genuine problem.  When I saw it in person, I loved the monitor but that off-angle issue needs to be resolved.
His comment doesn't read as "blind fandom." I don't think he considered that the size of the monitor can lead to off-axis viewing even when looking straight on. I certainly didn't until I read your post.
I know his post history as he's been here a while.  I was rather surprised he made that remark as it's a known problem.
