  • Merry Christmas, from the entire AppleInsider team

Happy Holidays and thanks for all the hard work and great articles you make.

I know the herd has gotten thin over the years, when it comes to sites like Appleinsider, I appreciate your dedication to make a great website and hope to see your continued success.

  • TikTok videos claim anyone can steal your credit cards with AirDrop

It’s time to start fining commercial sites that spread disinformation/misinformation, and fining/jailing the propagators of these BS scams and scares.

As long as the originators can continue to get away with it, they will keep pushing nonsense and propaganda. Also, the education community needs to do more to install critical thinking skills into our kids (and frankly, most adults). Maybe more air time for public service announcements on all sites/tv/radio networks educating folks on how to spot scams and propaganda.
Not with Elmo paired up with Donny. He’s gonna make misinformation great again!

  • Thieves using package tracking data to steal iPhone packages off porches

The carriers have had a tough time with internal theft. I remember hearing a story years ago about Verizon employees that were Hell’s angels members that didn’t have a criminal record. They would be assigned to customer service and would be able to get customer data to have their members make fake IDs and go buy carrier financed devices with new service or pay homeless to sign up for new service with fake IDs and give them cash for the new phones. It took months to weed them out and from my understanding is the reason why Verizon changed their policy on selling devices unlocked while under contract.

This seems like an inside job at a carrier or shipping company.

  • Rumors of an Apple-made TV set are back again

Maybe Apple should come out with a TV with an OTA tuner integrated with Apple TV OS?

If not a TV, then maybe an Apple TV soundbar?
OTA television is likely going to be phased out over the next few (I'd say 10) years in order to give that spectrum to other purposes. Where I live, everyone who is housed has some form of piped in cable TV in their home/condo/apartment building. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a pair of "rabbit ears" or a TV with a built-in antenna in at least a decade.
OTA TV probably won’t go away anytime soon. There are still plenty of people who use it in a lot of cities and rural areas. Especially since more people are getting fed up with cable, and streaming fees going up and up every year.

The reason why you don’t see rabbit ears is because of newer type indoor antennas that are plastic and shaped like small rectangles. Plus any homes with the old antennas on the roof can pull in a lot more HD OTA channels than one that is indoor.

I don’t know if the next administration will try to change that, but if all of the networks promise to stream nightly episodes of “The Apprentice”, I’m sure he’ll spare them. /s

  • EU's latest demand on Apple about geolocking is unforgivably naive

So the EU wants Apple to ignore US law when it comes to doing business in the European Union. The problem is Apple is an American country and has to comply. All of those “issues” are based off of rules that Apple did not create, the US did, and they have to comply with that. Just like the examples of rights management of content. Credit and debit cards do not always work here in the US, and the reason is the ISSUING bank, not the merchant. The EU has different laws when it comes to using cards and sometimes places like Apple do not want to get involved with regulations and rules that make taking that card more complicated, so the card is outright declined. Even card issuers like AMEX who issue cards to people living in other countries get their cards declined here in the US because of the processing company that the merchant uses. That isn’t Apple’s problem, nor is it their fault.
