  • App Store Freedom Act hopes to bring alternative app stores to US iPhones

    This is another attempt to make Apple’s business model that Steve Jobs made into the same thing that gutted IBM when they lost the PC market to cloners. The way the App Store works is tied to the R&D costs of Apple’s products. When NBC wanted to leave iTunes because they thought it cost them too much money, they realized that because of iTunes shows like “The Office” were saved by Apple’s customers who bought the shows episodes. 

    Now Epic, a company who, for years, had NO public beef with Apple’s fees, decided to revolt. Is it because of exorbitant fees, or because of Tencent’s 40% stake in Epic’s ownership and now they don’t want to pay.  

    So you can use 3rd party app stores on Android and I’m not seeing any data on how much money the consumer is saving nor how much more money the developer is making due to not being on a manufacturer’s App Store. 
    What I am seeing is more android developers making iOS apps and seeing more security alerts due to “open markets”.  

    I am in favor of negotiating better terms between Apple and the developers. Not so much the consumer because they would want everything for free anyway and some devs appease them and customers give them their data in trade not thinking their information IS the currency.

    Not this automated crap again. If there was a way to automate the process, don’t you think Apple, who has 2 robots to disassemble iPhones would have made a whole factory already? It’s not technically possible!
    Humans are still needed, just look at the photos and videos from Foxconn. They still need human eyes and hands to verify circuits, components and the assembly of the devices. You cannot yet replicate a humans ability to help with the manufacturing process and still keep the cost of the iPhone manageable. If you want to pay $5K for an iPhone, sure Apple can automate the process, but who the hell would pay for it?  Customers are already balking at $1K iPhones now! It’s been almost 20 years since the first iPhone came out and still there isn’t an automated factory that can make them. Stop watching the Jetsons, it was a cartoon.  
    Umm… mknelson wasn’t seriously suggesting that. He was expressing skepticism at the recent ‘no income tax’ claim and expressing skepticism at automated US-based iPhone production happening. At least I’m 99% sure he wasn’t being serious — that was what the “…” ellipsis at the end was indicating.
    Maybe, maybe not. It’s what is left out of the conversation that is debatable. I have seen a lot of these arguments about manufacturing in the US and for some people they think it’s actually possible to do this quickly. 
    I certainly hope it was sarcastic and if it was I apologize if my comments offended him or anyone else.

  • Apple revenue could actually benefit from China tariff war

    I think panic buying has subsided. Those who haven’t bought, are gonna wait and see what happens as we get closer to a new iPhone launch. Where I have seen prices spike in the last 2 weeks has been groceries and gasoline prices are still not even close to what Donald has claimed they are at. 

    I think people are more concerned with their day to day costs and aren’t really considering upgrading their Apple devices unless they really need to. The stores looked really busy the last couple of weeks, but that was because of panic buying and very few salespeople on the floor due to Apple’s forecasting of needing less help this time of year, which has blown up in their face.

    It’s sad that you had to write an article to explain how fucking stupid this administration is. 

    We want things made here for the same price as what we pay now. 

    In order for that to happen we consumers would need to eat the costs of building factories here along with the costs to train US citizens to help design new products since we are gonna kill the H-1B. 

    We would need people who would work for shit wages to make the products, and we are deporting people who would consider that if there were other incentives. 

    We haven’t even considered how we would get the materials here in the US to make the finished goods and components since all of that left in the 90s. 

    Yet by attacking every country financially, we are going to get a better deal and all that shit is going to magically appear.
