  • Stop us if you've heard this before: There's a new Apple Silicon killer in town

The article is much more balanced than the headline! Quoting selective benchmarks isn't exclusive to Intel and AMD remember the graphics benchmarks Apple quoted for its chips? I don't think there is any dispute (even from its competitors) that M1 chips are the undisputed king of daily driver (& developer) laptops in terms power, portability and battery life.
But just you concluded competition is good for everybody! Even for diehard Apple faithfuls.
Personally I am looking to procure a gaming rig in the near future and am very excited for the 7840u even with all the caveats you mentioned.

So while the 7840u’s specs might be real and to really show how good of a processor it is, it’s being sought after for handheld gaming using windows like the AOKZOE pro, it’s still an X86 based processor and not an ARM based one like Apple uses. What you have to consider is the length of time Apple has been using ARM with a desktop OS, which isn’t very long. Comparatively X86 has been used since the 80s. Apple has a lot of choices for the future of Macintosh, like using more than one processor, or even using an M type for some tasks and adding a lower end one (A15), like you would see in an AppleTV for other functions like just for video. The big advantage is that all of these chips were designed for low power, while the 7840u, can use low power, it takes a performance hit when you cut the wattage to it to conserve power and lower heat.

  • Microsoft's $68.7 billion Activision buy has been killed by UK regulators

Since when has Apple been dominant in Console Gaming?
The article sounds more like an MS press release than an objective review of the situation.

I'm not a gamer (solitaire and sudoku excepted) or user of any MS product so I don't have any personal axe to grind here.
It sounds more like an opinion piece, after reading the first paragraph.

The author doesn’t mention how Microsoft took away Bungie’s Halo from the Mac after buying them out, or how some of Bethesda’s new titles are Xbox/PC only, or have backtracked on committing to make upcoming titles multi platform.

Blizzard is one of the last big name developers who still makes AAA titles for Mac. I seriously doubt that if Microsoft buys them, that will continue long term.

  • iPhone SE 4 development lurches back to life with new tech

It could be that Apple wanted to kill it and force SE buyers into buying a mini, but that didn’t happen. I think the SE would outlast the mini, because of its physical size and the last iPhone with Touch ID.

  • Apple making the case that Apple Silicon Mac & iPhone are great gaming machines

Apple IMHO hasn’t taken computer gaming seriously since Bungie up and sold themselves to Microsoft just as Halo was getting ready to be released as a multi platform, multiplayer game and not a FPS as it is today.

  • Apple has two big CarPlay problems

Automakers do not want to relinquish their control over their audio systems. They now put car specific controls in them and route certain computer signals thru them that renders the car un-driveable if the deck is removed. Third party companies have made adapters to reroute the signals in order to replace the head units. There is now way in hell they are going to give that up now.

CarPlay sucks when compared to an iPhone, but it’s way better than anything most car manufacturers make. They use an android backend because it’s free. Ironically the android auto software can let you surf the web whereas stock CarPlay will not. You can’t ask Siri questions that would relate to a web query, just specific questions like weather and directions.
