I’d be happier if they enabled more queries to be dealt with on device. I find that my HomePods almost need to warm up first thing in the morning. Almost every time I give it a first instruction, such as “turn on bedroom light” I get a response similar too “there is no device like that in your home”, wait 10 seconds and ask the same question and no problem, it handles the query.

    Really pisses me off.
You know, my LG OLED television set is unresponsive to remote control commands for about ten seconds after the screen comes on. I figure it's logging into the mothership and uploading all of my credit card data and latest photos of my pets.

    Not a big deal.

Maybe someday Apple will release the $1000 HomePod Pro which will reduce the boot-up time to 7 seconds. You should buy that. Followed by the HomePod Pro Ultra at $1200 which will reduce boot-up to 5 seconds.

Might not be a big deal to you, and that is fair enough. After all, what annoys me may well not annoy you.

Still, when a very old £29 2nd generation Amazon Echo Dot from 2016 can do it first time every time (my daughter has one) I feel I’m not unreasonable in expecting my £299 HomePod from 2023 to do the same. It’s far more modern and powerful and It does cost 10X the price after all!

  • Apple drops the price of its 10th generation iPad to $349

Priced where it should have been in the first place. At launch it was too expensive for the "I just want the basic iPad crowd' and not good enough to interest the middle of the range crowd.

  • Apple's new iPad Pro gets M4 power, advanced Tandem OLED screens

M4, that’s an interesting move. Especially considering the M3 isn’t even fully out yet with the Ultra chips (and hopefully the Extreme variant which the Mac Pro desperately needs to justify its existence).

Wonder why they’ve jumped so far forwards, it will simply put people off buying M3 Apple Macs, no one wants to buy last years tech at this years pricing.

  • Removal of App Store's first emulator leaves more questions than answers

Apple do themselves no favours whatsoever with their vetting process.

Every week you hear stories of dodgy apps, most far worse than this one, slipping through into the App Store.

For a company that makes such an insane amount of money every single day out of apps you’d think they’d do a better job… fucking amateur hour.

  • Apple now allows classic game emulators on the App Store

Mario and Tetris here we come! Nintendo will likely now release an emulator for their back catalogue and sell their games, they’d be insane not too.
