  • Mozilla rampages over a lack of browser choice

I basically use Safari for just about everything on my home Mac unless I have a problem with a particular website then I use Chrome. At work I use a PC and use Chrome generally for the internet and Edge for the company’s intranet.
Ditto except that I use Safari on my Apple pls devices and Fire Fox as the alternative browser staying away from Chrome.

  • Xcode Cloud subscriptions now available for developers

How does the work completed in a “compute hour” compare to, say, an hour of M1?
    From the Apple Developer website,

A compute hour is an hour of time used to execute a specific task in the cloud, such as building an app or running automated tests. For example, running 5 tests of 12 minutes each equals one compute hour. Xcode Cloud runs tests in parallel with other actions, such as analyzing, archiving, and building, so you’ll get results quickly.

so it is hard to say. It will depend on what you are doing and only using it will show how it performs.

I can understand how a satellite is strong enough to send a signal down to earth that cell phones can receive. That would include receiving data.

But how is a cell phone able to generate enough energy for a signal all the way back to a satellite?

If you look at the transition from 4G to 5G and the density of antennas needed to render service, it’s a far cry to space…
The antenna in space is large, sensitive, and in direct line of sight.
These are small satellites and have relatively small antennas. I’m thinking that the antenna may still not be large enough and that a new phone that can burst short duration signals may be needed. Such a system would be good for texting like the Garmin InReach satellite system (which I have for camping in remote areas) and low data use but not for voice communication. To save battery power, a device could listen for when a satellite is above and when a signal is detected, send the message and wait for the satellite response that the message was received.

  • Apple Watch ECG could be a good early heart attack detection system

Interesting with placing the watch in different places. I wonder if anyone is considering developing a stretch t-shirt with leads in the appropriate locations and then send the data to an app for analysis.

  • Apple issues tvOS 15.6 to the public with under-the-hood improvements

When I read the part about supporting Mandarin, I thought it would be cool if you could use Siri to learn a new language by translating phrases. So I asked Siri to translate a phrase into Mandarin and it does it. I’m sure that functionality has been there a long time but it was fun to learn about it.
