  • iPhone XR will propel not just holiday iPhone sales, but drive early 2019 to new heights

    Stupid article.

"Instead of a near-50 percent drop that the iPhone 8 saw after the holiday, the iPhone XR is expected to only drop 30 percent"

The five-year average decline in total iPhone units sold from the December quarter to the March quarter is ~26%.

Kuo is cherry picking data.  iPhone 8 unit sales weren't the driver of total iPhone sales last year despite having four models available three of three months vs the iPhone X having two models available for two of three months.  iPhone Xs of all variations (total 9)
with its much higher ASP will drive total iPhone units sold, and total revenue to record levels (>85 million units, >$75 million).

March quarter units sold will decline about 25% from December quarter levels, while revenue will decline about 35%.  These levels are well within historic seasonality trends and nothing to get in a twist about.

  • Here are all the Apple Pay banks added during 2018 and 2019

    crabby said:
To make this work Apple doesn't need to get more banks on board. It is the still amazing number of POS venders who do not have the system working. A million free devices to the mom & pops would further Apple's biz more than signing 100 more banks.
Giving away devices isn't the solution.  Its the retailer's backend that is holding down retail adoption.

When the card reader manufacturers include backend support with the purchase of the device retail adoption will zoom.

  • Hands on with Apple's ornate gold Milanese loop for the Apple Watch

Been lusting for the Gold Stainless Steel model since seeing one at the Apple Store this last Monday.  Birthday in November and then there is Christmas.  Don't know if I'm going to be to hold out that long.

  • Thieves strike Palo Alto Apple Store, two days in a row

Not a firearm owner, NRA member or any of that, but if an armed guard dropped one of these “young men” and the video was distributed widely in glorious full color 4K HDR, this nonsense would come to a screeching halt.
From Hollywood's handbook on publicity: "There is no such thing as bad publicity".

You never read about thieves stealing Androids devices.  Samsung spends many millions advertising its Android devices, and still has to lower prices to move them.

Apple may lose a Million dollars worth of equipment throughout the year, but they get publicity worth much, much more, most importantly "iPhones are so desirable gangs stage mass thefts to get them".

  • Apple build costs for 256GB iPhone XS Max estimated at $453 [u]

I've never understood the reason for reprinting these COGS estimates.  They aren't accurate, or even fairly representative of Apple's true costs.  Nor do they have any bearing on what Apple charges for the iPhone.  Apple charges based on utility (value) not the cost of manufacture, and I'm happy with that.

As for the size of the battery.  Size is a contributor to battery life but isn't as important as the power management controller and the iPhone's settings.  Besides if you are draining your iPhone's battery before the day is done you need to get a life.
