  • Apple bans internal use of ChatGPT-like tech over fear of leaks, according to leaked docum...

These are the same companies that are fine with AI scraping the internet for other people's IP.
It's not really that much different to how humans learn.

    Highly advanced cut-and-paste.
Is a gross over-simplification of what these tools do. In fact, it may not even be an oversimplification, but rather just flat-out wrong. When you are typing, are you performing "highly advanced cut-and-paste"?

  • Google Bard: Adequate, but Microsoft Bing blows it away

I far prefer using ChatGPT directly to using Bing's adaptation.  Vastly superior at interaction.  Heck, you can argue with ChatGPT, and it doesn't get offended; Bing has told me it doesn't like the conversation and is terminating it!  This was when questioning why it made massive errors in some simple science.
Yes, Microsoft don't want people arguing (or conversing, really) with Bing - they just want people to use it for search. They restrict the number of Bing responses per "conversation" to 20, and it will abruptly end the conversation if it doesn't seem to be about searching for information.

For example, I asked it if it was based on ChatGPT 3 or ChatGPT 4, and it said (paraphrasing but only slightly): "neither; I am a language model developed by Microsoft and I'm not based on ChatGPT". I responded with "according to what I've read, I don't think that's correct", at which point it terminated the conversation with "sorry, I don't want to talk about this any more".

[...] Google Bard: Adequate, but Microsoft Bing blows it away
[...] Google's offering is worse in nearly every regard versus Microsoft's Bing.
[...] Google Bard's not really that much better than Microsoft's "new Bing."
[...] Google Bard should do just as well as Bing's use of the technology behind ChatGPT. And to a point, it manages to do just this.
[...] Indeed, the cleaner Google-style interface, the multiple drafts, and the quality of responses may make it a better venue for most users than to go through Bing.
Make your mind up! Was this written by AI?

  • USB-C on iPhone 15 might still require MFi certified cables

I think something has been lost in translation here; much more likely that this is a USB-C to Lightning adapter for backwards compatibility with existing peripherals.

Hardware (and hardware consumables) and file formats should be kept alive through legislation in order to protect digital legacies.
Or, people should take responsibility for their own hardware and data, and migrate to newer hardware and/or formats when their current ones become obsolete. It's not like there's no warning that this is going to happen. Usually, there is a significant period of overlap that facilitates a fairly straightforward migration path.
