  • Apple extends Apple Watch warranty to cope with swollen batteries

I don' t think there is any aluminum corrosion, this appears to be the finish flaking off. I have very acidic hands and have had watch finishes last just month, have always had to have stainless steel. So far the Nike Watch 2 I purchased looks good after 3 months of use.

  • EFF: Google Chromebook is still spying on grade school students

You would think Google would say something like if you are under age, say 16 or younger "Please don't enter your real name, phone number, address or anything that would identify you, as we don't want anyone to take advantage of you for any reason."

  • Samsung takes top spot in global smartphone share from Apple's iPhone, TrendForce says

Outside the United States there are huge populations, think China,
and what about Europe? It is a larger market by population than the USA and with 1st world incomes yet Android is apparently wiping the floor with Apple phones. Some {trolls} are saying that Apple's market percentage is less than 10%. I don't believe it but there is a lot of data out there that might or might not be true.
At the moment, (in the UK at least) all the promo's are for the S8. TV and billboard advertising is all Samsung. Apple is nowhere to be seen.
Out of interest, I went into one UK mobile network today and asked about a contract with an iPhone 7. The sales team almost fell about laughing. IT was the S8/S8+ or the Galaxy A or a one year old Sony. That was all the devices they were offering on a two year contract!
As much as we might like/love Apple there is a huge world out there that don't even consider an iDevice when choosing their next phone.
Yes, Apple makes 90% of the smartphone profits but how long can it last?
Will people actually pay more than $1000 for a phone (or £1300 in vat in the UK and 1200+ Euros)?
    Seriously?
Apple had better be careful or what little market share they have this side of the Pond will go down the drain.

Really, Apple better be careful because that iPod is the only thing making them money, ...iPhone....iPad....AppleWatch...Apple? Please stop after almost 30 years in business and the largest company in US Apple isn't going down anytime soon. Apple does need the next best thing soon though.

  • Apple upgrades 2013 Mac Pros with more cores & faster GPUs

With Apple telegraphing they are abandoning this form factor and the lame specs of the speed bump, who exactly would shell out the Dollars for this thing?

Apple needs to stop trying to reinvent the wheel with each new product release. The Workstation form factor is a necessity for some and a preference for others. For once, maybe Apple can conform to industry standards and design a Mac whose purpose is not as an object of art or industrial design- but as a form follows function tool that is versatile, maintainable over more than 24 months, user upgradeable and highly reliable.

A slightly smaller version of the Mac Pro Workstation with modern internals and connectivity would be just the ticket.
"For once", i think regarding the Mac Pro this was the first time Apple went crazy on design and sacrificed function. The Quadra 800 was introduced 1993 for $4,700 and the rectangular case would last for 20 years and was a lot more upgradeable than the current MacPro design.

  • Earnings preview: Wall Street expects record $77.4B revenue in Apple's best quarter in his...

    metrix said:
Without feeling smug, I'll certainly feel a slight sense of pride in having helped Apple to a record earnings quarter... because although it's taken me a long time - and I mean a long time, being an old-age pensioner (apparently) - a month ago I finally bought an iPhone for my pocket, instead of relying on that old-fashioned 'thing in a cradle with alpha-numerical push buttons' on my desktop, which always had so many missed calls in it's limited memory.

So yeh... although I started with a Mac IIVX back in the early '90s and only upgraded every half-decade or so, I suppose every bit helps... and, the iPhone is now giving me itchy feelings to go for an Apple Watch sooner rather than later! Like millions of others I feel, and benefit from, Apple's 'halo' effect... so fuck the anal-ists manipulative predictions!
Okay, you jumped on Apple before me but I got in at Centris 610 and didn't look back. I just purchase Apple Watch 2 about 2 months ago so I could play basketball with wireless headset but a bad heart valve stopped me from ever trying. Open heart surgery fixed my Mitral valve but following surgery my heart went into Aphib(racing heart beat) from 140-180bpm. I went to ER and found that the Apple Watch was within 1bpm of Hospital's device. The Aphib condition is quite normal for open heart surgeries but the Apple Watch became an awesome tool for checking to see if my heart was racing or not, just by asking SIRI to check my heart rate and it showing previous and real time rates.
My main reason for purchasing an Apple Watch would also be because of a past heart problem... I had a major attack three years ago from stress after my wife and love for 35 years passed away. Although I have a defibrilator fitted I've never had any recurring problem with the ticker... but a Watch with clever software would sure be interesting to browse during my various exercises as I walk and ride a fixie bike every day... not having been a car owner for six years!
Well, I can't say enough on the accuracy of the heart rate monitor. I could actually see when my heart was in the process of going out of sync just monitoring the change in heart rate. I was given a couple of exercises to stop the rapid heart rate by coughing or blowing through a straw and they did work somewhat if the Aphib condition was minimal. I could check my heart rate after the exercise and verify that my heart was back on track. I haven't explored all the functionality of the watch but I will respond to some texts using voice, which works quite well. Answering a call thru the watch is what you would think, small microphone and speaker. I get almost 2 days on a single charge even checking my heart rate 3 times an hour. I think it would be a great tool to track your heart rate during various activities and if your heart is improving over time. You might also look at the Withings blood pressure device. It works quite well for getting blood pressure and heart rate and storing it on your iPhone/ipad. You can easily look at your history in a graphical chart and easy to read color indications for pre hypertension/ hypertension/ etc.
