Verizon aims for 5G Samsung smartphone launch in first half of 2019
vukasika said:If memory serves, didn't Android beat Apple to the 4G market space as well? I know there was to me a significant difference in performance between 3G & 4G, but I don't really hear anyone complaining about how slow their phones access data any longer. I'm not saying that 5G isn't going to be awesome just that 1st to market isn't necessary a good thing. Does anyone even remember Sprint WiMax 4G network?
Just my two cents. Don’t know enough about 5G to know if it will have any impact on this, particularly in less urban settings. -
Fears about continued sales growth of iPhone mount, while praise heaped on Services
freshmaker said:Yeah - Apple makes such a quality product that increasing prices are going to deter people from upgrading annually or every two years. When you have a 7s that works great (esp if you have the battery replaced) it can be hard to justify paying $1000 for a new phone
Just not not worth it. Factor in the crazy cost of insurance and deductibles. After 18 months, I drop the insurance and self insure, so the savings is too good for a phone that’s not really going to change what I do. I don’t mobile game. The battery life and camera are the two areas I’d like to see improvement over the 7+. -

Cook says soft holiday forecast linked to iPhone XS timing, exchange rates
clarker99 said:chasm said:Oh look, the "miss" of consensus revenue by analysts is off by the exact amount of currency headwinds, which they never really take into account.
Also worth noting for this "soft" forecast: last year's fiscal Q1 was $78.4 billion (a billion over analyst estimates, btw), so any number Apple hits within or above its guidance will be at least $11B more, and will be an all-time record. Yeah, wow so "soft"! -
Apple, please move us all to USB-C across the board with the 2019 iPhone
polymnia said:Alternative idea: Perhaps the plan for iPhone is to phase out a wired connector entirely. It seems to me that once wireless charging gets a big enough foothold, and Bluetooth matures for short range data transmission, there is not compelling reason to continue punching a big hole in the bottom of our iPhones. I'd prefer a completely wireless iPhone that was more waterproof & had more room for battery & functional components.
Terrible idea. But that would be something Apple would do so they could charge another $150 for a charger and remove it from the box, pushing up margins.
That said, I am 100% behind a switch to USB-C. While its a change I won't like, its makes sense in Apple's lineup. If this is supposed to be the God of all cables, prove it with your actions.
I will likely hold onto my iPhone 7 if they make the switch in 2019 but will be ready for the jump in 2020. If i am going to drop $1250+ for a phone, I'll need to keep it 4 years to justify the cost. Plus the differences in the current phone and previous year phone are getting pretty minimal.
