  • How Apple Silicon on a M1 Mac changes monitor support and what you can connect

    I can’t work out what planet Apple are on with that photo of the six thousand dollar display connected to a $700 machine. 

    The stand for that display costs more than the computer in the same photograph. 

    Is this seriously a combination Apple expects people to buy? Do they really think that customers in the market for a $6000 display are going to buy a $700 computer to go with it?

    They “clearly stated” no such thing. During the keynote presentation, 1 hour and 31 minutes in, Craig Federighi states:

    “I’m happy to say that we have all our own Apple apps including our most demanding pro apps up and running as native now, and they’ll be ready for customers on day one. 

    Some of the biggest Mac developers have already gotten started. Microsoft is hard at work on Office for Mac, and we’ve been working with Adobe on Creative Cloud and many of their apps are already up and running great.”

    So Apple only claimed that their own apps will be ready for when the new Macs came out. They made no such commitment on behalf of any third party developers, Microsoft included, other than to say that they have been working with them and that they have universal binaries in the works.

    Thank goodness iPad Pros "still" use iOS (or iPadOS, to be more specific). That's precisely why people like me choose the platform.

  • Apple's MagSafe Duo Charger approved by FCC

    Just saw Tech Crunch’s review. What a disappointment. Not even a proper hinge, just two halves held together by cheap flimsy rubber. You can even see the laminated seal around the edge of the product. This has been made using the most inexpensive production methods. 

    I was expecting something premium for the price. This is like a cheap knockoff.

    Nah. Apple’s not interested in filling out their library with a back catalogue. Apple plays long games, very long games. Think 10-15 years.
