    You sure that early pilots of Airbus aircraft commented that Airbus made pretty good consumer operating systems but not nearly good enough that they’d trust them with their lives? 

    General nervousness around aircraft high automation was fair enough but was mainly because the entire technology was fairly new to the industry. But Airbus knew aircraft inside out, so they had that on their side. 

    With Apple, the situation is different. They already have years of experience making operating systems, and that’s precisely where the nervousness comes from; their software quality is hit-and-miss. They released a monitor with a god-awful camera which by their own admission is due to their software. That same monitor borked its firmware updates just this week. If Apple can’t even ship decent software for a display then what on earth is their Car operating system going to be like? 

    That’s the concern; not with the technology itself, but with Apple.

    Apple can’t use it. That technology is owned by Cyberdyne Systems. 
    They absolute could use it, as they hold an exclusive perpetual licence to use it in commercial electronics. Indeed, they used it for the SIM ejector tool bundled with the iPhone 3GS. 

    Apple doesn’t use it because they’ve clearly found that other materials suit their needs better.
