I think Ted Lasso is geo-blocked.  I recall reading that Apple does not have worldwide rights (yet).

That would be odd, considering they own and developed the show from scratch. What rights would they be missing.

I don’t think I’ve read anywhere that Epic have stated they expect Apple to provide promotion of their software.

On the contrary, the app refuses to function unless it has a constant network connection. Even a minor blip in connection (e.g. if you're travelling and your train goes into a tunnel) causes the app to lock up until connection is restored.
