  • Apple's new iPad Pro ads tout augmented reality & mobile notetaking

I am in the market for a new iPad as my current one is four years old and slow. As someone mentioned though, is this what it has all come to - placing furniture into a live scene? Remember when wearables at CES were the next great thing in fashion and lifestyle that was going to change everything? Or 3D TV was going to change the way we consumed media? For all the billions spent by these big companies I was hoping for a little more I guess. Till it does I’ll buy furniture the old fashioned wayand go to a furniture store and try stuff out. Who is using AI successfully right now? Big businesses where I suspect were we are the furniture! I will probably wait another year before upgrading I guess.
This other things you mentioned are called HYPE.  Apple's detractors like to accuse it of being "late to the game" when in reality they are much better at filtering out such crap. In some instances that have been noticeably slow (keyboard+pencil for iPad), but when the innovation comes it really works (usually, with notable exceptions and missteps). So AR has uses, just not all the hype and "shiny objects" of VR or voice assistants launched by others. If Apple took the same approach as Amazon, for instance, there would be Siri on my toaster, Siri on my water bottle, Siri on my socks. This "burns out" a potentially useful tool just to get it out there and try to get early market share. We know the lack of success Our Lady of Perpetual Beta has had making that strategy work.

  • Apple's Mac sales in the holiday quarter solid, beats expanding overall PC market expansio...

Apple is dooooomed. Doomed. Doomed. It must, just must, made a touchscreen, gorilla-arm inducing, all in one, toaster fridge.
But like someone said above, I'll wait for Apple's numbers before actually writing that.

  • Microsoft pulls plug on Windows 10 Mobile, says userbase too small to support apps

How many times have they done this same dance?  Surface 1, Surface 2, Surface RT, Kin1 and Kin2, Zune, Windows phones - all cancelled without support, leaving their user base suck with an unsupported platform.
And MAN are those three people ever mad!!!

  • Inside iOS 11: Files app brings some user control of documents stored on an iPad or iPhone...

One thing I noticed about "On my iPhone/iPad" is that you can't save files to the main level, and you can't create or rename folders. You can only put things in a folder for an existing app.

For example, I wanted to save some web images to "On my iPhone/iPad", but I had to choose an existing app's folder (I chose "Pages") to drop those files into. It is a new folder, not the same "Pages" folder that is on my iCloud Drive.

I hope Apple will create an update for iOS 11 that will allow users to put files into "On my iPhone/iPad" at the top level, or to create and name their own folders.

That won't happen. There is no centralized document repository in iOS as one of its main differences from desktop operating systems. in iOS only apps have document repositories. If you need a centralized document repository in iOS then this is the iCloud Drive.
Never say "never". All Apple would have to do is allow Files.app the same privileges to store files locally as any other app that currently does. They should move in this direction. Constantly re-downloading files (often at great expense over LTE) keeps iPad from being a pro level laptop replacement.

  • watchOS 4 no longer lets you browse iPhone music library on your Apple Watch

This absolutely infuriates me. I used this function as a remote control for my iPhone on a daily basis since it was quicker to pause and advance music than unlocking the iPhone. I also use this on long flights to listen to my music library without having to have my iPhone out. I've just changed my mind on Apple Watch 3. I'm not particularly enthused about paying at least $10/month for cellular so was going to grab a wifi only Watch 3. Not anymore. Why on earth did they remove this functionality and not move it somewhere else, such as the remote app. Bad, bad move Apple.

I don't think this article explains the change as well as it could. I have Watch OS 4, and I use it to play, pause, and advance music on my iPhone all the time. In fact, in Watch OS 4, it automatically goes to the correct screen when you play music from your phone.

What this refers to is if you are storing music on your Apple Watch, and you go to the Watch's music app (looks like an iTunes logo), everything in that music app is just stuff stored locally. If you start a playlist from your iPhone, you'll still have all the remote controls available.
No it doesn't work. I used to be able to go to "library" and choose any playlist on my iPhone. To get controls, I have to manually switch to "now playing". Nowhere can I find the old playlist index that refers back to my playlist library on my iPhone.
