So, piece by piece, the iPad is devolving into a laptop. I thought Apple always looked to the future, not revering the past.
The HW is getting more powerful and capable which is allowing for additional features. Multiple apps on the screen and better keyboard access isn't "devolving." This was always going to pull away from the smaller, simpler smartphone and move closer to the larger, more complex traditional PC in its utility. If there's any question it should be why didn't this happen faster, as people that use their iPad as their primary computing device have wanted these features for nearly a decade.
I agree that I also do not see this as the iPad devolving, though I’m not sure if having all of these features right out of the gate would have been the best idea either. I think they were smart to slowly integrate more laptopesque features. Had they simply made a surface, then people would not have been forced to rethink how they input information on a device. Then developers would likely not have made the shift either (their reluctance to do so is evident on how long they tried to wait it out) and all of these new powerful apps may not have existed. For me it forced my hand to rethink my workflow and because of that I now only need one computing device. When everything for me is considered, the best thing that my first generation 12.9 iPad Pro is that it’s still an iPad.

I hope the new keyboard is more reliable/durable than the original.  I have one of those with the original iPad Pros, and have been having lots of problems with it over the past 6 months or so.  Frequently gives me a message that “This accessory is not supported by this device,” doesn’t work, or just keeps beeping until I disconnect it.
I have also been having the same problem for quite sometime. One of the things that I’ve noticed that helps is to shut down all open windows and hook it up to a power supply. This doesn’t work all the time but it does provide a greater success rate. My thinking on this is that it just can’t keep up. I think this also explains why sometimes the swipe typing doesn’t register what I’m doing or if it does it cannot do words that are longer than 6 letters. But if I give it a moment without any input it starts to work again. I know I’m 4.5 years in and long in the tooth, but for many uses it is still a fantastic machine.

Regardless, I am also seriously considering upgrading and even though the cost of the keyboard is high if it can be tilted to any angle that it could be with the price.

  • Two months later: AirPods Pro versus Powerbeats Pro

The Powerbeats Pro are far more comfortable and are not made from the ugly white plastic that screams 2005.
Case is nicer, battery life is better. Sound is fine for mobile. Nobody uses these things for critical listening.
I do not want noise cancellation when out walking.

I guess it depends upon your needs.
I bought the Powerbeats Pro when it didn’t look like the AirPods were getting ANC. I liked them, but really loved being untethered even more. The thing that I didn’t like about them was the case as it was so large that it limited when I’d be wearing them. When the AirPods Pro were released, I sold the Powerbeats to get these and have loved them since. The small case is perfect in the front pocket of your pants. Because they are always on my person, they are getting way more use than the Powerbeats. And the transparency mode is something I use just as often (if not more) than the ANC.

Am I the only one that read his quotes in a Joe Pesci voice?

Let me see if I understand this:

There are countless artists who make great stuff, but they have zero exposure to an audience that wants their work. This is despite the claim of full and direct access to the world.

It is NOT a good time to be an artist.

Last comment: Visual artists are in the same spot.
Serious question; how is this different from the past, when the only way in was to sign with the gate keepers err... record labels?

  • AirPods shipments to double to 60M in 2019 on high demand for AirPods Pro, report says

Am I allowed to say that the AirPods Pro are "magical"?

The difference they make, especially in scenarios like gym workouts where there is a constant hum of the treadmill, is phenomenal! The AirPods were spectacular. The AirPods Pro push even further.

You can also choose any colour you like - as long as it is White!!

I second the magical! It is difficult to comprehend how a device like this even able to exist; it is simply mind blowing. I absolutely love mine!
