  • Apple's new RCS stance may have been forced by China

The thing that makes the EU vastly better than China is that if their citizens don’t like something, they can complain and vote. Even foreign companies like Apple can complain and appeal decisions.

With dictatorships like China (and Russia), there’s far less freedom to dissent.

The big worry with Apple and China is — what happens if China secretly demands that Apple spy on American or European citizens? Would Apple comply if the alternative is China shutting down iPhone production and banning sales in China? I personally don’t think Cook would comply with that demand. But what about the next guy or the guy after that?

  • New iPad, MacBook Air, Mac mini: What to expect from Apple in the spring

The Mac mini is usually among the first devices to be updated in an Apple Silicon generation
    (bold added)
It’s happened twice. The plural of anecdote isn’t “data.” We also have instances when the mini went so long without updates that people thought it was going to be cancelled.

quibbling aside, I’m very curious to see pricing on the Mac mini. My hope is that M3 pro will get a price cut, given that it’s arguably not much of an upgrade relative to m2 pro.

  • Apple Vision Pro early review: a peek into the future of computing

Thank you for this very thorough review!

I think it's funny that you AI guys perceive yourselves to have such radically different views of AVP. I don't actually think you do. Rather, I think you just have different tones when discussing it. It's like you agree totally on how many milliliters of water are present in the glass, it's just the narratives you use to describe it are different. The author of this piece is a half glass full guy (that's my personal tendency, too), other authors are more Eeyore types. It's like writing an AVP review is a personality test.

In reading this (and other) reviews, my views of this device are confirmed/reinforced. There's no way I'm buying this thing in its current form, but I'm excited to see what it evolves into.

I've also noted among comments in various threads on this that many people lack the cognitive capacity to hold both positive and negative views of something in their minds at the same time, or to understand that others have that ability. And that makes them angry.

  • China to get Apple Vision Pro by May at latest

Too bad this wasn’t available during china’s extended COVID lockdowns. I bet Apple could have sold more than they can make , regardless of price. Lots of people desperate to escape their jail cells

  • Wedbush remains bullish on Apple after 'bumpy' China results

It’s very sad for the Chinese, but China is in long term decline due to both demographics and the terrible choices of their leader. It will be a case of one step forward, two back. So China weakness will be part of apple’s earnings for a long time to come. The only solution for apple is to diversify away from China.
