TSMC's second Arizona plant may not open until 2028
though it was later revealed that the all Arizona-made chips would still go to Taiwan for final assembly.I thought it was then later, later reported that Apple had found a company to package chips in the us, so no need to send back to Taiwan for “assembly”:

Apple Vision Pro has 16GB of memory, potentially 1TB of storage
9secondkox2 said:Apple, time to up the base RAM on all Macs to 16 GB.
If you are giving a headset 16 GB, then a Mac should have that to start with as well. at the least.
and 256 gb in bae mac storage? in what world is that ok?My gripe is what they charge to upgrade that base configuration. Cut all the upgrade prices in half and everything would be fine. -
Apple isn't behind on AI, it's looking ahead to the future of smartphones
Yawn. It’s just optimizing something akin to virtual memory for AI. That’s fine, but it’s not a huge breakthrough, just a small innovation.Apple clearly is behind in LLMs.But, I’d say it also probably doesn’t matter. All you need to catch up is a ton of money and competent management. Apple checks both those boxes.Apple will likely excel at making LLMs practically useful and accessible, even if they lag on the core tech for a while. In time, they will pull even and then ahead on the tech. -
All iPhone 16 models to get A18 processor according to iOS 18 code leak

Apple's Tim Cook was among Chinese President Xi's dinner guests
I guess you don't need a 'sphere of influence' when you just redraw the map to annex territory:

If Xi's rhetoric were actually true, it would be pretty compelling. For example, imagine a world in which China patiently tried to reunite with Taiwan through positive, peaceful persuasion, instead of constant bullying and threats. Imagine a world in which China actually respected its neighbors and didn't unilaterally attempt to expand borders. What if China tried to gradually become more open and free? In short, what if China behaved as the West had hoped it would behave back in the 80s and 90s? The world, including China, would be a better place. Instead, we've got a wanna-be emperor declaring a forever friendship with a wanna-be czar. What a pity.
