  • US and China temporarily lower tariffs to start trade negotiations

The difference between a 145% tariff and a 30% tariff is that with 145% shelves would be empty, with 30% the shelves won't be empty but the stuff on them will be a fair bit more expensive than before. Remember, people lost their minds when prices went up 7% over the course of a year under Biden.

  • New report contradicts Tim Cook's remarks about iPhone panic buying

Tim Cook has details about when/where every iPhone was sold and access to amazing data analysis tools.
He **can't** lie about this. He has a fiduciary duty to the shareholders and he could be sued for giving false or misleading information.
If nobody outside Apple has the information, how can anyone prove he's lying?

I'm not saying he's lying, but just pointing out that the threat of a lawsuit that can't possibly have evidence to back it up isn't really a credible threat.

Politics aside - having geographic distribution of chip production is essential as to not have a freak natural disaster kick us back into the Stone Age if most chips are manufactured in one small location.
Very true! Taiwan sits on the "ring of fire" and is vulnerable to earthquakes and tsunamis. All else equal, not an ideal location for multi-billion dollar fabs.
TSMC's factories in Taiwan can withstand an 8.0 earthquake and remain operational. Their fabs are also 60 feet above ground level and are sealed and incorporate pumping systems. So they've thought about that.
    So 8.1 and they’re toast.

And what good is a fab with no electricity and surrounded by rubble?
