  • First look: Apple offers premium power at budget pricing with new iPhone SE

Most people buy the 16gb because it's the cheapest and they don't know any better.

Unless you use very few apps and rarely take photos it is not enough.

I accept that some people are able to get away with just 16gb.

However most phone manufactures, especially the flagship devices moved away from 16gb a long time ago.

16gb back in 2010 made sense, it does not make sense now, especially when you plan to keep the device for 3 or more years.
    You're wrong.

    1) A tremendous swath of users don't know or care how much storage their device has.
    2) Today it is actually more possible to live with a 16 GB device than it ever was before. Not the other way around. Two of the biggest culprits of storage space: iMessages, and Photo library have had recent innovations that prevent them from taking up all of your storage. iMessage can now auto-delete old messages, and iCloud Photo Library + Optimize iPhone Storage allows you to take as much Photo and Video as you like, while constantly reducing the amount of actual local storage.

So, the argument that it "made sense" back in 2010 when none of these features existed is completely wrong.
How much bigger is the OS? How much bigger is the average app? My son has a 16GB iPad mini, he has no photos on the device,  doesn't iMessage with any one , and has only a handful of apps,  and he's constantly running out of space.

  • Apple announces 9.7" iPad Pro with Apple Pencil support, True Tone display, A9X CPU, starting at $5

But you're forgetting the extra $200 for the items you're paying $100 more for the support of.
nope, you're paying a bit more for the option to use said devices (and of course all the other new features). you may not need either pen or keyboard, or need one next year. but like a machine with more ports or slots -- its the capability and flexibility you're paying for.
20% more is not 'a bit more'. If you don't want a stylus or a keyboard you're still screwed paying for its support. Previously a iPad cost $499 and the user was able to use all its features, now the iPad costs $799 if one wants to use all the included features. That's going revive sales? Good luck with that.

They obviously left out a 128GB option so that it would create demand for the 4" iPhone 7....
    BINGO.

The low price of $399 and the missing features ( 5 series shell, no 3D touch, no 128GB) makes it obvious that they will make a top tier 4 inch model in Sept.

Another 4" model in 6 months? Another thing you're going to be wrong about. Mark my words.

Now where are the ones who keep saying Apple are all for profits and they won't sell it cheap. No way for $350 / $399 iPhone?

All the the dislikes and hate have been pointing to those who said this price range is possible.....
It's iPhone 5 chassis, not 6. People have been talking about 4" in iPhone 6 body. Refreshed 5S of course would never sell at $550.
So now it's just a refresh but whenever someone calls an s model a refresh they get pummeled down with 'it's a totally different phone, only the shell is the same'. I'm quite enjoying all the back pedaling, and tune changing that's going on today.

I thought Apple would never do something like this?
    very crazy.

I was way off. I thought it would be $550.

This just tells me that Apple is switching strategy. They are putting more emphasis on increasing user base instead of maximizing profit on each unit sold. Then Apple will sell services to a larger and larger user base. Love it.

Good buy Samsung and any other premium Android brand. Game over.
Really, you way off? Wonders never cease
