  • Apple launches $50 gift card incentive for Apple TV 4K

They should have just dropped the price.

The Apple TV is at this point extremely excessively priced, like much of Apple's product line.  It offers no additional functionality to most of its competitors, most of which are under $50.  In fact it has less functionality than many, since it idiotically doesn't even offer a web browser.  Got Comcast?  You still need a cable box, since the Comcast app doesn't run on the Apple TV, and Apple, instead of just allowing any app to be installed (Remember, the ATV is really just running a modified iOS, the hardware is perfectly capable of running any app that runs on the iPhone) not only doesn't remove that artificial restriction, they don't have any mechanism for a user to install software of their choice on hardware they own, a practice that should be illegal.

At this point, the ATV is so worthless that Apple should probably start giving them away for free with a Apple TV+ subscription.  A fair price without the subscription would be about $19.99.

I was looking through a Grizzly catalog the other day. They carry DeWalt, Milwaukee and Grizzly's own brand of battery operated tools. The batteries are all unique, not interchangeable. Why aren't countries investigating these companies? Shouldn't we have a standard battery that plugs into every tool? Of course not, because each company has a right to build a tool or product the way they want to do it. Same goes for Apple products.

I don't get it.  You see another MASSIVE problem (non-interchangeable batteries) and instead of advocating for a solution that will reduce waste and frustration (a mandated battery standard) you somehow convince yourself the current situation is just fine because Apple has a nonstandard port and you want to believe Apple is always right.

Yes, we absolutely should have standard batteries.  Yes, countries absolutely should be investigating tool companies.  That there aren't battery standards isn't some imaginary "right" of corporations, it's failure of governments to do their job.

He’ll love FaceID. I know I stopped missing the Home Button within a day or so.

Doubt it.  I've got a X that I use occasionally for testing, and I HATE FaceID.

And his problems would have been easily fixed with a new battery and new Lightning port.  It takes less time to do that than move data to a new phone, AND he'd still have a headphone port, which Apple is too cowardly to put back.

I'm currently using a 7+ as my daily carry phone.  At least a few times a week I miss the headphone port.  Every time that happens I seriously consider upgrading back to my 6s+ even though it's a bit slower.

  • Lock screen changes in iOS 16 an 'act of love,' says Craig Federighi

    Why would anybody want this?

The lock screen has too much on it as it is.  I'm good with the time and date being there.  I'm ok with the battery SoC.  I'd rather not have any info about WiFi, cell carrier, cell signal strength, Bluetooth connections, location services, or rotation lock on there.

If the phone is locked and I need that info, I'll unlock it.  If somebody else wants that info they shouldn't be able to get it.  A locked phone should do nothing and give nothing away.

  • Apple's macOS Ventura beta review: great new features, but some concerns

I suppose the workaround for 'unsend' with iMessages is to keep an older Mac running Messages all the time.

Mail is going to be more annoying, given that any Mac running 13 will likely respond to the 'unsend' email and delete the message from your inbox.  I'll have to configure my mail server to keep copies of everything before I ever install 13 on anything - or just give up on Apple Mail and use Thunderbird on any Mac running 13.

Hopefully Apple will see the insanity before release and add a setting to just disable this 'feature' that's really a bug.
