  • Simply Mac bankruptcy: Who to call, what happened, and why

Makes me think either Apple supports these partners more or build more Apple Stores.

Partners closing don’t help Apple in any way unless Apple replaces them.

Apple does not care AT ALL.

They're trying to make it impossible to operate as an authorized reseller or repair provider.  The only way to survive long term at this point is to go unauthorized.  The Apple store repair price including labor is typically identical to the part cost for authorized repair providers.  For dealers, the margin on a lower end Mac can be under the credit card percentage.  Warranty repair rates have been cut.

You have to drive farther to an Apple store?  Not their problem.  You can always mail it in.  Data preservation?  You should have had a backup.  Weeks without a computer while it's shipped off to Pegatron?  You're too poor to have a spare?  Not their problem.

  • Brazil joins fight to make USB-C standard on iPhone

I was looking through a Grizzly catalog the other day. They carry DeWalt, Milwaukee and Grizzly's own brand of battery operated tools. The batteries are all unique, not interchangeable. Why aren't countries investigating these companies? Shouldn't we have a standard battery that plugs into every tool? Of course not, because each company has a right to build a tool or product the way they want to do it. Same goes for Apple products.

I don't get it.  You see another MASSIVE problem (non-interchangeable batteries) and instead of advocating for a solution that will reduce waste and frustration (a mandated battery standard) you somehow convince yourself the current situation is just fine because Apple has a nonstandard port and you want to believe Apple is always right.

Yes, we absolutely should have standard batteries.  Yes, countries absolutely should be investigating tool companies.  That there aren't battery standards isn't some imaginary "right" of corporations, it's failure of governments to do their job.

  • 'Captain America' star Chris Evans finally gives up his iPhone 6s

He’ll love FaceID. I know I stopped missing the Home Button within a day or so.

Doubt it.  I've got a X that I use occasionally for testing, and I HATE FaceID.

And his problems would have been easily fixed with a new battery and new Lightning port.  It takes less time to do that than move data to a new phone, AND he'd still have a headphone port, which Apple is too cowardly to put back.

I'm currently using a 7+ as my daily carry phone.  At least a few times a week I miss the headphone port.  Every time that happens I seriously consider upgrading back to my 6s+ even though it's a bit slower.

  • What macOS Ventura features Intel Macs won't get, and what's coming later for Apple Silico...

So, the OpenCore Legacy Patcher devs are already working on support for older Macs.  It's likely to be ready early next year.

It'll be amusing to run this on a 2008 Mac Pro, just for flipping the finger at Apple if nothing else.

(The 2008 is currently running 10.14 because I've got a few 32-bit apps on it, but I'll probably move those to a 2010 Mini, I was planning on doing that anyway.  And yes, I know it only 'supports' 10.11.  B) )

  • Apple could face $900 million 'Batterygate' suit in UK

Apple really did screw up badly, and if nothing else needs to be smacked down hard enough to not only discourage them from ever doing anything like it again but also to discourage every other tech company from pulling a similar stunt in the future.

I almost replaced my iPhone 6+ because of Apple's fuckery.  I decided I could live with the speed a bit longer, but the battery life was crap, so I replaced the battery.  The speed problem went away.  I probably should have investigated it, but I was happy enough to have the phone faster that I didn't think to swap the old battery back in to see if it made a difference.  About three weeks later the batterygate story broke.

If I'd known that the phone was being throttled because of the battery and I'd had the option, I'd have set it to "go fast anyway, I'll risk the occasional crash" and immediately ordered a new battery.
