Bad idea.

If you cross international borders, you should WIPE any device you're carrying first.  Sign out of any "cloud" services, and nuke the storage. 

Then once you're past border controls you can pull data you need for your trip back in. 

It's the only reasonably secure way to cross international borders since your privacy rights generally don't apply at customs.  Any border crossing documents you need should be on paper. 

The only way this would be even remotely safe is if you carry a separate device that you use only for your digital border crossing documents and NOTHING else.

Maybe you can buy the first one at fire sale prices.  It would be worth buying for $50.

(And by that I mean $50 for a pair.  $50 for one is far too much.)

It was a stupid product when it was new, it never improved, the price never dropped to anything even remotely close to reasonable, Apple discontinued it. 

Why would anybody be surprised?  It was a failure from minute 1.

And we have no idea if it's even possible.  It would require transparent circuits, normally transparent/sometimes opaque and lit display, and probably a transparent wireless power antenna.  That would all have to be less than a millimeter thick, and flexible. It would have to accommodate corrective lenses for users who wear contacts for vision correction, or it would have to handle vision correction itself.  Oh, and it would have to be completely non-toxic and oxygen permeable.

Maybe in a hundred years.  Maybe never.  But I don't think there's a chance that this is going to happen in 20 years.  The materials to do it simply don't exist now.
