  • Apple and the future of photography in Depth: iPhone 8 Plus

I think a lot of you are missing where Apple is headed.  The two cameras on the iPhones weren’t put there JUST for portrait mode... that just happens to be what they’re being used for right now.

In reality, they were the first small step into the world of augmented reality (which Apple wants to play in BIG TIME).  Just “faking” bokeh with a single camera (like Google is doing) misses the whole point: if you want true depth sensing for AR you need two cameras (or something like the infrared dot array of the X).

Portrait mode on iPhones is just the first application of AR from Apple.  They are going to continue to build in more and more and more AR capabilities into the phones over the next couple of years.  Apple loves to slowly drip out hardware features like this with limited use while they get the formula right and everyone keeps working away in the lab to perfect it.

  • Video: iPhone 8 Plus versus iPhone 7 Plus speaker comparison - electronic, rock, and bassy...

Nice test!  The 8 sounds "fuller" in addition to being clearer.  It's not just on the high end... the mids are also less muddied.  Overall, it now sounds like a speaker I might actually listen to....

  • Apple debuts first AirPods TV commercials, Apple Watch ad focusing on activity

These are my second pair of headphones.
If you took the time to read the forum I linked you'd see it mostly a problem for people that have apple watches.
i think the Apple Watch and the headphones are competing for the same Bluetooth connection with the phone.
Still an Apple problem that should have been tested by apple.
They released the product prematurely because they were trying to keep their promise to release before xmas.
Again, they work perfectly well with my Series 0 Apple Watch and my iPhone 7.

If you don't like them, return them.

    Apple has the gaul.
Releasing ads for a product that's seriously defective.
You can't  make a phone call on these AirPods without it dropping the blue tooth connection multiple times.
Im talking about 5-8 drops in 10 minutes.
Instead of fixing this major bug, apple release AirPod ads for something that doesn't work???
These AirPods are a beta product at best.
i have lost all faith in apple.
Link to the AirPod disconnection issue below.

By the way, I also sent an email to Appleinsider about 3 weeks ago telling them about the defective AirPods and they still haven't published a story.
Appleinsider is in cahoots with apple!!!!!

    They work perfectly for me.

Instead of ranting about it: just return them and move on with your life.  Apple has a very good return policy.

  • Peter Thiel says 'age of Apple' at its end

    AppleBum said:
And Apple has certainly shown that they can't compete in markets outside of their current ones. Look at...um...smartphones back when Apple was a Mac company.
You mean _iPods_ when they were a Mac company!

And _smartphones_ when they were an iPod company!

Apple is going to continue to do well.  The Watch is maturing, AirPods are a huge hit, Apple Music is doing well, the AppleTV is finally coming into its own, etc.

They are working on _many_ projects... and still selling _millions_ of iPhones.  Yeah: the explosive iPhone growth is settling down but Apple will still make plenty of cash :-)
