  • Apple Pencil navigation returns to iPad Pro with iOS 9.3 beta 5

"While the Apple Pencil can once again be used to scroll and open items, there are still some navigation functions that cannot be accomplished with the Apple Pencil. These are mostly relegated to edge-of-screen gestures, like invoking Control Center, Slide Over, and Notification Center."

That is very much ON PURPOSE.  With the way it is now you can draw/write all the way to the edge of the screen/edge of the app in multitasking.  It would be TERRIBLE if every time you got close to the edge of the screen with the Pencil the notification center would jump out or slide over would pull out.  I use the Pencil all day every day (used it for about 6 hours straight this afternoon) and it is perfect the way it is.

Apple knows what they're doing here.

  • Oculus Rift preorders start at $599, with first units shipping Mar. 28

I have a maxed out cylinder Mac Pro and a friend that's preordering one of these.  I'll get him to bring it over so I can try it out on a Mac.  I'll definitely report back in the forums with how well it works on a Mac.

I do scientific simulation for a living and I produce a lot of 3D videos that we currently show using 3D TVs... being able to use a rift to look at 3D simulation results might be interesting...

Google Inbox is by far the best.  I haven't used a Desktop client since Gmail was in beta...
    Say what....

“Google isn’t just a search engine; it’s a provider of email, document storage, videos, phone service, and numerous other capabilities. What they all have in common is Google’s legendary contextual advertising—that’s how Google makes money. And the more Google services you use, the more personal data the company has about you that can be used to target ads with ever greater precision. Make no mistake about it: every search, every YouTube video viewed, every email read contributes to Google’s personal profile on you, to be used for the express purpose of displaying targeted ads.”

Yep - I'm one of those weird people that _wants_ targeted ads!  Ads pay for the things I like to view on the internet... as long as I'm going to see ads I would rather them be more relevant to me!

I'm also one of those odd people that likes to _pay_ for the things I use.  It's one of the reasons why I'm signed up with Google Contributor... so I can contribute directly to the websites I read daily...

  • AI readers pick: Your favorite news app for iPhone and iPad is Apple News

The News App is really good... and it is _awesome_ on an iPad Pro. It feels like holding a digital magazine... like those seen in futuristic movies (or kind of like a Harry Potter newspaper). It's huge, bright and super smooth. The thing I really like about all of the Apple Apps these days is that syncing is seamless between all of my devices... and that includes the News App. I love that I see the same news stream on my iPhone as I do on my iPad. Now, we just need the same App for OSX...
