New Mac malware can remotely access FaceTime camera, but macOS Gatekeeper users are protected
lkrupp said:But, but, choice.
Gatekeeper is annoying.
I own my computer and I don’t want Apple telling me what I can download.
I’m a geek so I don’t need protection by Apple.
Did I miss any?
Even on the most restrictive setting (app store only) you can right click to specifically allow running of non app store (but recognized developers) apps
this flags the app as "ok" so it will run in the future without requiring the right click.
To run un recognized developers apps, right click on the app to attempt to run, which will be refused because of an un-recognized developer,
then go to the security and privacy settings (in system prefs) and an option to "run anyway" will be available, click that and the app will run (and be flagged as "ok" for future launches.)
Setting security to "App Store & identified developers" removes the necessity to first right click on the app to run recognized developers apps
There is NO functionality restriction to leaving app security on on "Mac App Store", or "App Store & identified developers" -
Samsung not separating OLED business [updated]
melgross said:All we *think* we know about Apple and OLEDs, is that they might be moving to them in 2017. Why people think there will be a wrap around screen, I don't understand. These are just mock-ups from people who know nothing about what Apple is planning.
So, will we see OLEDs in 2017? Possibly. Will we see a wrap around screen, um, well, maybe, but why? -
Updated ambient light, proximity sensors in 'iPhone 7' prohibit use of legacy cases
mac_128 said:Ha -- so the rumor is no major substantive upgrade, AND the customer still has to replace all of their accessories? Even my SE can use all of my 5s accessories.
Are you really serious, or was that just a fantastically lame attempt at trolling
(or perhaps a faux-troll intended to lampoon the trolls (and I/we didn't get the sarcasm?)
The 3G cases didn't fit the iP4 which didn't fit the iP5 which didn't fit the iP6
And guess what? Odds are that the iP6 cases won't fit the 7

Apple rumored to debut OLED iPhone in 2017
Oh puh-lease They drag this story out nearly ever year for what seems like the last 5 or 6 years. And the sources are always "people familiar with apple" or "insider sources" And the 'turfers always reply "oh thats good! (that they are finally catching up to samsung)" OLED's have serous problems (longevity among them) and less color accuracy than the LCD's apple currently uses. Why would they downgrade? (they wouldn't) Their only real advantage, power consumption is not something the iPhone has issues with (Apple is obviously hitting their design spec otherwise it wouldn't be that thin) "Apple is expected to take advantage of OLED's unique properties, specifically the ability to conform with curved handset designs" Curved handset? Again, Oh Puh-lease OLEDS are a solution in search of a problem. Curved handset displays (just like curved TV's) are no more than a valueless marketing gimmick. -
Mark Cuban says Apple should remove Twitter from iOS App Store for objectionable content
Mark Cuban reminds me of Michael Dell. You look at where they are and just scratch your head in amazement. Then you realize that their greatest asset is just dumb luck. Comments are spot on; the Twitter app does not create nor contain objectionable material. That you can find and display objectionable material using the app is true of most internet applications. Twitter provides content filtering/blocking. Either Cubans's just another apple hater with blind rage which further dulls his already clouded reason, or he recognizes the difference and is just being an ass... (which is more likely the case)
