    I've tried the 3rd generation Echo Dot and it's horrible. It sounds like a 2nd generation Dot under a pillow, only louder. The new treble and bass controls make little difference. It's the way the 3rd-gen is constructed/encased.

    I'm aware of the latter.

    I'm staring right at listings in my purchased section for Sierra and El Capitan. I'll make some calls.
    I've looked in my purchased section, too, and didn't see any macOS installers.
    Furthermore, the macOS postings on developer.apple.com are only delta and combo updaters, no full installer for any past release.

    Advantage of the smaller charger:  the Li-ion battery will last more charge/discharge cycles.
    If you want to lower the useful life of your battery, quick-charge it every day.
