  • Hands on: Find anything fast on your Mac with the Atlas Recall app and service

I'm sorry, but using the cloud for this is simply unacceptable.
IMHO, sites like AI should stand behind consumers and not accept this either.

Even if you don't care about giving up this level of privacy, I can imagine information about your friends, relatives and colleagues may leak through this service that those other people would prefer not be leaked. (As an analogy, think about the people who handed over their contacts database to LinkedIn and how perhaps most of the people on that list wouldn't have wanted that to happen.)

  • Google pledges to stop scanning emails in Gmail for personalized ads

What if someone uses Gmail via Readdle's Spark app, which is only "free" because Readdle or its affiliates are allowed to scan the account?
(I wouldn't touch Spark with a ten foot pole because of that.)

  • Why Apple won't ditch Lightning for USB-C on 'iPhone 8'

Looking at a blow-up picture of the USB-C 3.1 female port, it looks significantly more vulnerable to getting clogged with dirt/lint/gunk than does Lightning. Plus the female USB-C 3.1 port has a tongue (clitoris?) in the middle that might be easily damaged or broken off, thus rendering the device in an irreversibly nonfunctional state as mentioned in the video. This might not be such an issue for a MacBook Pro as it could be for a smartphone that's frequently stashed in a pocket or purse.

  • Review: Sonos Playbar speaker does all-in-one TV & music for Apple device owners

While I enjoy its sound and have it paired with 2 Play 1s, integrating the PlayBar with my modest AV equipment has been a PITA and expensive. Optical switch needed, plus an HDMI->HDMI+Optical splitter (which failed once and had to be replaced). Elimination of optical out from the latest Apple TV was no help. Few options for Blu-ray players, too, that properly support Dolby 5.1 and THX over optical. To coordinate it all, SimpleHub subscriptions add up (and despite the niceties of the SimpleHub software, it doesn't fully support a lot of equipment that's more than a few years old). I tried the Sonos Sub and it was overkill for my home and also revealed a lot of low-frequency, distracting noise in standard TV programs (e.g., outdoor sports broadcasts with wind present).

  • Google Maps adds Timeline support on Apple's iPhone & iPad

You can bet history wipe only removes it from viewing by the user, while Google maintains the history forever.
