It took about 3 days but I believe my iP15PM has cooled down and stopped churning through battery. My guess is it was synching photos and processing them--I've got hundreds of gigs worth. I also have a sense that the titanium frame (and hence my hand) is tied into cooling the processor more than the steel frame in previous iPhone generations. Thermal conductivity of titanium is quite a bit higher than steel, which means users will feel temperature increases faster. And Apple chose to increase A17 processor performance over reduced power consumption with the new TSMC fabrication process.
