  • Deadly Apple Store car crash was an accident, driver claims

I know this is a few days old, but I have a 4-Runner, it's not the same model as the one involved in this is a Limited.  You can tell because on the truck below the Logo, next to the R of 4Runner is Up/Down Arrows which are exclusive to the Limited Edition. Anyway, I had my shoe get stuck and had to YANK HARD to get it unstuck, it had to do with the heel of the shoe and gas pedal (accelerator), and while I don't think it's a design flaw (as there is never a "perfect" design), it made me aware of the issue and I was luck I was on an open road.

I would have crashed into a column on the right at the minimum, thrown it into neutral (if I had time, when the truck gears down and goes you have maybe a sec or two to react) or turned the key off, but again you have a few seconds to react and most people don't understand that.

  • iOS 16.2 beta gets 'Rapid Security Response' update

I would like to see a new iOS feature that sends out a "silent SOS" if I use a certain alternate PIN or certain alternate fingerprint to unlock my device. It should still unlock the device, but send an emergency text or email to selected people that could indicate I am under duress.

I would also like to see a "silent zeroize" alternate fingerprint and PIN that would erase all my data if I use that PIN or fingerprint. And this feature is the reason I prefer TouchID to FaceID - you can't carry a second face with you, but you have about 9 extra fingerprints.
Have you tried hitting/clicking your power button on the side of your phone five times fast, six time if you phone hasn’t already in standby mode?! Try that and see what happens… it’s a feature of iOS for a while.

  • Zuckerberg thinks Apple is making aggressive moves now to control the metaverse

    opinion said:
Please Apple don´t go into this VR nonsense, keep making insanely great products for humanity instead. Let Meta and
Zuckerberg loose money on it meanwhile so that they goes bankrupt in the end. A great win for humanity!
VR isn't nonsense.  It is certainly niche, and something like the society portrayed in Ready Player One is about as dystopic as it gets, but there are loads of valuable use cases outside of gaming and entertainment that make it useful.  Imagine not having to travel to the other side of the country for an operation when the doctor can VR in to your local hospital to operate.
Completely agree, it’s niche… just like GoPro’es and DJI Drones! When they came out, everyone had to have one but quickly people found out their videos of their bike rides or their drone footage, well was boring and sucks. Yet, both of these technologies rushed in the usage of these tech to tons of specialized uses; GoPro or that style of camera is now pretty standard on all Police, Drones replaces tons of helicopters required inspections jobs on high wire electrical line and around oil rigs.

But FB isn’t a niche company and here is where the problem is, MarkZ is so disconnected from society and reality, he really feels at his core, Society is going the way of Ready Player One and we will want to get away from our real lives!!! That VR is going to be the next “drug” for the next generation because the real world is going to be so mean and hateful!!?!

Maybe he’s right maybe he’s not, if he is right it’s not going to be in my lifetime, especially at that price but what do I know, I’m not a billionaire, I’m just an average consumer.

  • One million Facebook users had passwords stolen by fake apps

The last paragraph sum’s it up… but let’s go a step further!

”Logging in with an old-fashioned email address, using a strong password generated with a password manager such as iCloud Keychain, would also be more secure — and private — than Facebook's method.”… now let’s use a forwarding address that’s created specifically for this website/app. Meaning if I downloaded Crazier Birds (made up app) and it want me to sign in, I create a forwarding email, crazybirds1@ForwardingAddress.com and then generate a random password. Worse case, hacks get my login to Crazy Bird but nothing else, not my FB, Google, Apple, etc. the hackers literally cannot go anywhere with this, end of the line. They don’t harvest an emails and if they start spamming my forwarding address, I kill it and no harm done, they don’t get any original personal information.

But where and how do I get this forwarding address, great question! Apple started providing this for free, you can even use your own domain for this through Apple. Apple randomly assigned an email for logins. There are also services out there that provides this, Google it!

  • How macOS Ventura's background removal compares to Photoshop & Pixelmator Pro

    philotech said:
I'd be interested how Affinity Photo compares with the three. Do you have the app, or can you provide the original shots in full resolution here so everybody can do his or her own comparison with their tool of preference?
Agreed! If AI can provide the original image, us supporters can compare it to many other background removers, especially online ones “claiming” they are better than X (photoshop normally) and upload the results here.
