  • Apple Vision Pro execs talk about developer headset accessibility

Pretty sure you’ll be able to try it out at the Apple Store, that’s why it’s there. I don’t however think Apple is worried about selling that many to typical consumers. This first Gen is mostly for developers, and sure, a few “money is no object” enthusiasts. The 2nd gen will target broader consumers, once apps are in place, and see a healthy price cut — that will be very compelling. Won’t be much different from the trajectory of the iPhone (remember Jobs saying “we’ll be happy to sell 1 million in the first year” when it was introduced … LoL). The watch also rapidly dropped in price after the first generations.

People talk about how the high price will lead to some epic fail, but just need to trust the process.

This is still a RUMOR.  Don't believe anything until Apple announces it. If Apple is going to try and sell it at $3K, it's going to be a failure.   Yes, some people will pay for that, but most won't.  If you don't have enough people buying it, it's going to fail.  You need high enough numbers for developers to make games for it.  Few games to no games, bye, bye!!!  I think it'll have a hard time selling at $500.  First gen product is another wait and see also for many.
It's fairly obvious that at a $3k price point the device is a field beta with a buy-in. It's not for you or for me, it's for people with money and irrational desires to be first all the time. Which works fine for Apple - they'll get s little income to offset part of the costs and will get invaluable data back from all the beta testers who shelled out the bux. It's not going to "fail" because this is not the final product.
It’s almost certainly for developers. I doubt we’ll see a “for the main stream” device for about a year. You know, once there’s some actually 3rd party Apps.

  • Apple's AR headset, new MacBook Air -- what to expect from WWDC 2023

So, if the headset appears, surely it will not be intended for sale to the public, but rather a developer model … hence the higher price etc. I think this underlies the price confusion: Yes, the developer edition will be $1-2K, but the public release model a year or so later will be much more affordable, and there will then be a range of 3rd party Apps to make it a more compelling product.

     Crappy updates this year.
Marginally bigger screen, marginally brighter, marginally tougher screen, marginally thinner case, marginally faster charging = crappy.

There, fixed it for you. Oh, and you forgot heavier.

But you’re both right, it’s both pretty uninspiring and about what we should reasonably expect for every 2 out of 3 years or so. I think we all agree, it’s mostly a matter of whether you’re a glass half empty or half full kinda person.

To a lot of users, an M1 Mac Mini with a 5k display (or even the XDR like I have) will make a lot more sense than this iMac.
To a lot of users, the new M1 iMac makes more sense than a Mac mini with a separate display. Great that Apple serves both kinds users, eh?
