  • Amazon closing all of its brick-and-mortar bookstores and '4-Star' locations

I've gone in to my local Amazon store a number of times - always just to return items I've bought online. The stores are packed full of people and those people seem to be buying, so I'm surprised they've decided to shutter them. Also surprising is that those people are actually buying. I found a book that looked interesting. it was $40. For Prime members it was lowered to $32. I scanned the barcode using my Amazon app and found I could have it delivered to my house for $20. $8 if I don't mind it used.

I guess people get wrapped up in impulse buys enough to spend that kind of money. Me? I'll buy the used copy for $8 and save a bundle... As for returns, fortunately there's a UPS store a few doors down from the Amazon store.

  • Apple considers dropping face mask mandate for Apple Store staff

Horrible news! Where will triple (or quadruple?) vaxed maskaholics shop for their Apple products in guaranteed safety?
Hope the pandemic phase ends soon. I’m dying to know what perceived violation of freedom selfish maskholes invent next.

  • The best weather apps for iPhone and iPad

I wish I could get weather on the Lock Screen. I’m tired of trying to get it there unsuccessfully. Apple wants you to buy their watch (which you can put the weather on the face of it). I’m tired of these products all different across the board. Dumping my iPhone for android..
LOLz. Have fun with that. I've had three Android phones myself (semi-daily drivers back when I was working as a developer and needed to support the platform) and you couldn't pay me to switch over. All three of those phones (a Moto X and two Galaxies) each received ONE major Android update before becoming deprecated. Switching from Motorola to Samsung had me lose a couple of Motorola-specific apps that weren't available on the Galaxies. The Moto's battery life as utterly abysmal after the first year. The interface is comparatively clunky and inconsistent. Apps were generally of lesser quality. The process for moving to a new device never worked as well as it does on iOS.

But hey, at least you'll be able to see the weather .319 seconds sooner...

  • Support for hotel keys in Apple Wallet being added by Hyatt starting Wednesday

Brilliant. I stay at Marriott properties several times a month and have given up on the mobile key. It's cumbersome to have to open the app and wait for it to come up so I can tap on the mobile key icon. I just stayed at Bellagio in Vegas last week and tried their mobile key and it was slightly better, but still a bit of a hassle.

When the Marriott Bonvoy app adds Wallet support, I will give it another shot (especially if it can use "transit" mode to avoid even having to open the wallet in the first place).
