  • Apple to donate to Amazon rainforest preservation and restoration efforts

The world needs to stop its love affair with bloody beef!
Agreed, but it won't.  It tastes good, and it's relatively cheap compared to other more sustainable sources of protein.  I wish I could remember where I found it, but I read a study a while back that said the world needs to reduce its meat consumption to 1 hamburger per person per WEEK to curtail the resource demand that the beef industry puts on land.  You think that will ever happen, with 9 billion people coming down the pipeline.

Until it's cheaper to live responsibly this sh&t show of destroying the earth will continue without stopping.  Humans don't see long term with then have to sacrifice the short term.  Are you going to tell a family of 5 in Hong Kong they have to spend 3x the price of their beef to feed their family because it's the responsible thing to do and their beef shouldn't come from cheap Brazilian rainforest land?  Hell no they won't do it, nor will the billions on the planet that eat beef and want it cheap.  It's truly a no-win game.  This planet is truly doomed, I'm sorry, but those are the facts.  No one will face them as long as we need cheap food and companies are pressured to put profits over responsibility. Good luck in 100 years.

  • High-end 2019 Apple iPhone lineup may shift to 'Pro' branding

I have purchased a new iPhone every year since 2007.  This time, though, none of the rumors include a compelling reason to upgrade.  Hopefully, Apple has a surprise or two in store for us.
I was in the same boat last year.  I have upgraded ever year since I owned the 3G, and last year was the first year I held onto my phone (the X) and didn't got with the Xs.  I figured the 2019 models would be good to wait for, but with what is coming through the rumor mill, I'm not sure I'll even upgrade this year (my X is going strong and shows no signs of being an old phone).  If the cameras blow me away, I will heavily consider it, but it might be worth waiting until 2020 when they possibly introduce 5G (and 5G has rolled out enough from the carriers to make it worth while).  Also, if the rumor about 3D Touch being removed from this year's line up is true, that might keep me from upgrading...i love that feature.

  • Every Android maker to have 5G flagship by end of 2019, Qualcomm says

You know as soon as these first Android 5G phones are available for sale they're going to market the hell out of their 5G capability as a selling point yet it will be useless because 5G won't be available for 99% of people.

  • Apple Watch Nike+ Series 4 out now, limited supplies at retail

The only good thing about this watch is the band.  I had a Nike Series 2 watch and luckily when I purchased my Series 4, the person who bought my 2 let me keep my Nike band and just took the band from the 4.  The band is excellent, very comfortable, but the watch isn't anything special.  The Nike run app is a joke (Strava is superior) and the watch faces are terrible.

If you want the great Nike band, the watch is worth buying, but that's all I can recommend from it.

  • Review: Apple Watch Series 4 is the full realization of what a wearable can and should do

“Full realization of a wearable”?? Not if you’re an athlete. Does any serious endurance athlete choose an Apple Watch over a Garmin? Not that I know. Did Apple fix the GPS lock delay? The lost data at the beginning of every workout? The bad triathlon transitions? The inability to handle European 33 1/3 m pools? AW has apps, which is a plus but for core fitness functionality it still has a long way to go to catch Garmin. I’ll take a pulse oximeter and integrated Strava over an ECG any day.
I'm a runner, training for my first marathon in a couple weeks and I just completed my 19th half marathon in 4 years.  I take training very seriously and the AW has been a part of it for 3 of those years.  The watch GPS accuracy is excellent.  I just ran a half marathon last weekend and when I was done, my watch said I ran 13.14 miles (yes, one hundredth of a mile off on a 13.1 mile course, I'd call that pretty accurate).  I would say the native workout app on the watch is OK (typically use it when I walk the dog), but could really improve.  I prefer to run with the Strava app, which has much better post-workout data.  But the hardware side of the watch is fantastic.

Interestingly, I have a co-worker who is a Samsung Galaxy user.  He's very frustrated at the lack of smartwatch choices that do what he wants.  He wants a watch that he can use while running and leave his phone behind.  He also wants a watch that can stream music over cellular.  He has Amazon's music subscription and therefore doesn't own the MP3's he listens to but wants to stream them on his runs.  But there is no solution out there for him.  Not a single non-apple smartwatch (at least that we've tried to research) allows to streaming music over cellular with just the watch.  That's one of my absolute favorite things about the AW, I can throw in my AirPods, leave my phone behind, and have access to the thousands of songs in my music library wherever I am without having to load them on the watch.  AW + apple music + AirPods is an absolute dream for a runner.  Apple has hit is out of the park with their ecosystem, and needless to say he's a bit jealous.
