  • How to choose between stainless steel vs aluminum Apple Watches

I had a series 2 for two years, it was the aluminum space grey version.  After 2 years the watch looks brand new.  I never babied it, but never had an incident where I thought the watch had a chance of being damaged.  The Ion-X glass is very strong.  Since I didn't feel the need to spend the extra $ on the sapphire glass, I opted for an aluminum series 4 this time around.  So far loving everything about this watch!

  • iPhone XS Max dramatically outselling iPhone XS, Apple Watch Series 4 sales exceeding all ...

The AW4 is an absolute marvel of technology.  I upgraded from a Series 2, and this thing is night and day better.  Everything responds instantly, zero lag...I mean zero!  Having cellular is so damn nice, and even having Siri speak back questions and commands makes it so much more useful.  And that new screen on the 44mm, holy crap, so big and roomy.  I'm sure the watch will continue to improve each year, but right now it feels like this watch has finally become what was envisioned when they first introduced the idea a few years ago.  Reminds me of the leap to retina display on the iPhone and how much of a game changer that was.

Looks like people want and are liking big screens.  At this rate I'd be surprised if the 5.8" XS sticks around next year.
I would be surprised if the 5.8" screen ever goes away.  Although the huge screen of the Max is very popular (and it's beautiful, checked one out at the apple store this weekend), I think there are tens of millions who still like the smaller form factor.  I just got my wife a new iPhone 8 (upgrade from a 6s), she thinks the X form factor is still too big because she can't access everything on the screen while holding it in one hand.  I don't have that problem with my X but of course my hands are larger.  I think for smaller hands, the smaller size is still appealing.

I had hoped for longer battery life, my current Apple Watch wouldn’t get me through my day and late night gym routine, it pooped out before I’d completed my workout. I love the new health features, as we grow older it’s important to keep track of our vital statistics so I’m buying, I’ll just have to carry my charger on my ride home from work to charge the battery. I hope it’s a little more durable, just reaching for something knocked the screen completely off the base, an unfortunate occurrence which rendered my current Apple Watch useless.
I think we all wish the watch had a 2-3 day battery life, but with all the features packed in and the limits of batteries these days, it's just not possible without having an ungainly thick watch.  However, I would recommend looking into a routine to get the most out of your watch's battery.

For me, I always charge my Series 2 about 2 hours in the evening.  When I'm home and fixing dinner and winding down for the day, I rarely need my watch, so it's charging until I got to bed.  Put it on when I do go to bed a 100%.  I use the silent alarm to wake up because I get up 30 minutes before my wife and this wakes me up without waking her up from my alarm (can't tell you how much she likes this feature!).  I turn on Theater Mode so the watch's face never needs to light up at night. When I wake up 7 hours later my batter is anywhere from 95%-100%.  I work out for about an hour, and depending on my workout, if I stream music from the watch to my AirPods, etc, the batter may get down 60%-80%.  I charge the watch off while I shower and fix breakfast, and that will add about 10% to the battery. That's enough to get me through the rest of the day and I still rarely dip below 20% by the time I get home and ready to charge it again.  It's a routine that's worked for me and maybe twice last year I found that my watch ran out of power before I was ready.  Maybe you could fine a routine that works for you that helps to get the most out of your battery while still getting full use out of the watch.

  • Apple now accepting preorders of iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and Apple Watch Series 4 [u]

Very interesting. 3 pages of comments here and I see most post are either for Watch series 4 or iPhone XS Max orders. Obviously this is a very small sample size but im guessing the Max and XR will both outsell the XS. If you have an X, not sure the XS is worth the upgrade. If you’re in the market for a XS could probably save quite a bit by buying a used X off the secondary market or from carriers that still have stock.

I'm in that boat.  I have an X and don't have any desire to upgrade to the XS.  I'll take a look at the XS Max once they're in the stores, but for now I'm content with my 'old' phone.  First time I haven't upgraded since I've been an iPhone user (3GS days).  Updates are nice, but with the prices of these new phones it's not nearly the no-brainer as it used to be.

But the watch, all over that.  Got my order in last night about 12:15, and a nice Apple Buy Back on my old watch too.  Should be available next Friday at my local Apple store.  Shipping times are out to mid October now so I'm glad I stayed up late (but it wasn't easy).
