New Tibook, Towers, G4 ibook? What do we really have to count on in August besides Jaguar and when will Jaguar start shipping inside new machines? Oh and when is this date August 13?

My personal guess...up to 1.4GHz (give or take < 100MHz) (insert processor of your choice here)'s on nForce2 mobo, shipping with nVidia GeForce4 Ti standard, and next gen nVidia chip/Radeon 9700 BTO option.

    Shipping with X.2

PM G4 1.2-1.4 duels at high end.

    Bluetooth built in.

hybred DDR memory system as in XServe

New Nvidia Video card, with ATI as BTO option.

    FireWire 2 ?

    USB 2 ?

September-October update to iMac/eMac, to include speed boost ,133 memory, BlueTooth. Same for iBook/TiBook.

Hopefully Apple will bring back some strong hardware anouncements for SanFran, they need them.

Having read up on Nforce2, it's will be a huge leap forward for Apple. We would finally see what a G4 is actually capable of.

Does any body know that the Nforce and Nforce2 are X86 AMD Platform? These are for pC's people. Go to the web site. Read the info

please. Anyhoo if you all take a look at those MObO's in Apple's towers and such you'll see the same integrated design. Nvidia just decided to

jump on the band wagon too.

Everything on the NForce2 board is PC compliant. Why or how would

Apple and Motorola get the rights to Nvidia's reference boards?

In all respect to the megalo Mgz maniacs out there many Apple related

sites have specified that the ProUser line will not be left out and Apple

will be advancing its PowerMacs later this year. I don't know who started the whole Nforce-Apple deal but whoever you are, you must be

PC crazed, and Im sure if you'd like to jump on that band wagon the PC world will accept you will open arms.

The NForce2 is just another attempt at useless competition. Sure its got

a great "Integrated" design. Sure all those great "Integrated" features look swell on paper. But when it comes down to it, its still uses WIndows.

My only fear is that people (that includes me too, unfortunately) are going to have higher expectations for the August PowerMac announcement, given that Apple evidently had more time to develop/refine the upcoming product.

    I know it's foolish--but I admit I can't help it...

Nothing personal, but that makes absolutely no sense. The nForce2 is an Athlon specific motherboard that won't even be out for several months. Modifying it to the G4 CPU would take months and is probably not even doable since the board is based on the X86 platform. Furthermore, it includes a graphics controller so there would be no need for another AGP card.

Nvidia has yet to ship a nForce MB that is faster than MB's with discrete components. I honestly thing some Mac users have been listening to their PC friends too long. I do think nForce2 will be nice but I'm tempering my enthiusm with reality. What is more exciting to me right now is the new ATI 9700. Good to see Graphics taking big leaps like that. A few more years may see cards faster than Wildcats for less than $400

nForce is based on and relies upon the x86 ISA, and to change it for PPC compatiblity would be a fundamental restructuring of the the nForce technology. The amount of changes that would be needed to transfer the nForce2 chipset to a PPC compatible chipset would make it into a whole new technology.

No nForce on PPC, not realistic, not close to realistic. Kind of funny, but funny wearing off in favor of annoying.

On the other hand, I wouldn't rule out a close partnership between Apple and nVidia. nVidia has some slick GPUs, and some nice technology. What i would like to see more than anything else though, is a fundamental change in the Mac MoBo, A much faster Bus speed, DDR Ram, and a second CPU slot STANDARD ON ALL BOARDS. A nerd can dream, can't he?

I think the death of the entry-level Powermac is likely.

    Just 3 expensive models:

    1.2 GHz at ~$2199

    2x1 GHz at ~$2799

    2x1.2 GHz at ~$3499

I think bumped G4's, improved mobo, Dualies all round, 133 DDR, Gigawire (which I think is Firewire 2), Firewire 2 (if it's not the same as Gigawire), modified case.

    1.0Ghz

    1.2Ghz

1.4 or 1.5Ghz for the high end.

I hope for: Wolf, faster G4's than anyone is predicting, new Radeons.

Well, I think the Powermac upgrade will either be extremely lame or extremely awesome.

Someone said the same thing in another thread (can't remember who) and I completely agree with them!

I doubt that this would be a good idea. Most people with PCs already have a monitor. If Apple wants them to switch, they should offer an entry level tower for these people. Personally, I would like to see a diversification into a prosumer and a pro line.

The current PowerMac chipset is actually quite impressive, so its clear that Apple is very capable of designing their own rather than going with some product from another company that is focussed on the PC market. Hopefully the delay means that the motherboard Moki has mentioned with all the bells and whistles is finally ready to go. Either way we're going to see DDR and a 0.13 G4 @ up to 1.4 GHz on the existing 133 MHz MPX bus -- if the new chipset isn't ready then it'll be an Xserve. If it is ready then it will have extra features to take advantage of the excess memory bandwidth provided by the DDR. AGP 8x, FireWire 2, and USB 1.

Actually, Apple is going to drop dual processor machines, and the new "Powermac" is going to top out with a 225MHz 604e. Apparently, people just don't need faster processors than that.

Defying logic, I just went ahead and bought a Dual 1 Gig refurb from Smalldog for $2400. Seems odd, given that there's talk of dual 1.4's with improved architecture floating around...

However, I suspect that the Powermac will be in the doldrums for at least six months, and that MWSF will only be the beginning of a turnaround which will culminate with an IBM POWER5 "lite" next year around MWNY.

In this case, at least, I believe "no news is BAD news..." i.e. Motorola has totally punked out and Apple is scrambling to replace them as a supplier. I don't believe they'd hoard 1.4 ghz G4s just because Apple still has excess inventory. I'm sure Cisco et al would love to get those chips...

In any case, I needed a faster computer NOW, and couldn't afford to wait until the next upgrade- even if the Dual Gig is obsoleted in a month, it will still be at least four times faster than my "Mutant G4" (B&W G3 upgraded with a 500 mhz G4 ZIF). Cripes, even the eMac makes my machine seem pokey!

Darned if I know what we will see. I was wrong on all counts about MWNY. Blew my credibility all to heck.... Oh wait! I didn't have any credibility. Guess I am okay then.

Best guess? DDRam mobos, speed bump of 20-40% in CPU and of course shipping with Jaguar. Price points will remain about the same. Big news will be the motherboard.

I am getting worried for Apple when it comes to hardware. Of course I hope something GREAT comes out but I don't think so......at least not yet.

For the next year I think Apple is going to move into multiple processors. I can see all PowerMacs having a 2 (or more) processors. OSX allows for this and can be done with relative ease.

At least this would give Apple a short-term marketing angle. The MHz is half of an Intel based processor but if you can market the frequency time 2 then it looks good heh!

I'm opposed to the rumours of Apple moving to x86. I think it'd be Apple's doom. Instead I think we're going to see the G4 around in multiples and then maybe move to the POWER4 or 5 or some variant of it. Or maybe Steve has something else in line, but whatever it is I want to see the Macintosh be the PC hardware leader once again.

Sure Apple Comps are 1/2 the speed of Current PC's in the Market and sure we all (even me) want to see faster macs but the one thing apple have over shitty PC's is a GREAT O/S (Jaguar)... I am happy to wait a while for a faster processor because I really think that A solid OS is far more important than the speed of a Computer.....

    (..Anyone else share this view???)

I was talking to an apple chap today that said in around Six Months we will see the New generation Mac which will be uncomparable (and frankly shit all over) to todays macs...
