New Apple Monitors on Wednesday?

in Future Apple Hardware edited January 2014
Just was browsing for computer gadgets at a store which sells Apple products in Manhattan, where I overheard a salesman selling a woman on a G4 system. When she started asking about flat screens to go with the system, he said, "Actually, don't tell anybody but on Wednesday Apple's making an announcement and the prices will be coming down on these. So wait a few days on that." He sounded like he wasn't completely certain, and the woman asked him follow-up questions--he said that was all he knew.

Worthless? Worthwhile? Does this mean new flat panels? Was this guy just smoking crack? You be the judge. I think he does believe it's true, as he was upselling everyone and their brother as he worked the floor...he sincerely wanted to save the lady a few bucks, or at least avoid returns.

Do with it what you will.

It is not unhead of for such an obscure person to come into such knowledge, but it would be rare.

I know our local Mac store, <a href="http://www.themacexperience.com/"; target="_blank">The Mac Experience, pretty well, and they never know anything ahead of time--not any more than any of us who keep up on the rumors and news, anyway.

As always, i guess we'll see...

I wouldn't expect new anything at least until the beginning of October, when the current display rebate and other offers end.

While promos may signify new products emerging, they do not necessarily mark the exact date. Apple has ended them short and extended them as well. The dates are not exact.

    Right.

And many people said with great authority that the planetary alignment last year would rip the earth to pieces, after it had pulled the world's oceans over the continents ending life as we know it.

Then there's that whole Y2K deal. I don't know about you but my VCR didn't explode or randomly record the Golden Girls instead of Star Trek Voyager.

I think Nostradomus has a better track record than some sales guy in a random Mac store does.

Well that's rather absurd, comparing a future hardware prediction to a disaster prediction that dates back centuries! How can you be so sure one is related to the other to such a degree that they can be compared so accurately in this manner?

Perhaps what that salesperson said is true. If it isn't, the world isn't exactly going to end, now is it? And heaven forbid you should give him any seperate level of credibility from Nostradamus, or some other prophet! I mean, it's not like he's any different from them at all, right? Why, clearly they're one and the same type of person! Of course, I should've known...

Yeah! What a jerk the sales guy is. I mean, he was no where near vague enough for it to be true!

Anyway, I bet you couldn't re-arranged the sales guys name to spell 'mud rats soon'.

That's kind of like the Mac Genius at the Northshore Apple Store telling me that I could do that funky iTunes Rednezvous streaming today and that it was somewhere in the prefs.

    ok then here's the question.

if this guy DOES know something he shouldnt know, and would prolly get in trouble for telling people, why then would he be telling everyone and their mother on the sales floor?

ever consider that mabey its a lie. mabey he's telling ppl, dont buy today because their out of stock and dont want to say so. or mabey their specific store is going to do a promotion on wednesday and to get more ppl to show up they'll say that prices will drop on apple monitors.

i have an OFF TOPIC reply. cause if i make a thread out of this it will be locked.

why cant ppl take something important from the middle of a 20page discussion and re make a new thread about it to talk about it?

idunno about you guys but i am not gunna spend all day reading a 17+ page thread that started about 2 months ago..

if theirs something new a relevant about that then it should be a new thread.

No salesperson in their right mind would ever tell someone not to buy one day with the expectation that he/she will come back another day. When someone walks out of a store without buying, that's a lost sale. Being out of stock also isn't a good enough reason to concoct a story.

The only reason why a salesperson would (should) ever tell someone not to buy would be that they know (think) something is going to change and they don't want the customer to yell at them a week later. Even that is unusual.

The salesperson might believe something is going to happen, but could also be grossly misinformed.

Well, I just bought a 17" flat panel display, so yes,

I would not be surprised they are about to reduce

prices right after I bought one. Par for course.

The part of the story I find the most unbelivable is that the salesman was trying to save her money.

That's like stocking the new milk in the front of the case isn't it?

I believe it is possible. I recall when the new iMac was on it's way (this is before the Time Canada leak) and I had asked an individual at my local Mac store a pointed question, she wouldn't answer me (with words at least) but she clearly answered my question with her facial expression. She basically confirmed that the new iMacs were on their way.

Long story short, it is possible that this salesperson got a tip about new screens. We'll see...

It depends on whether you are interested in making one quick sale or if you would rather try to build a long-term relationship with a customer.

I worked in sales for ten years and the latter served me very, very well.

Very true. Also if the person was not on commission, then the gain or loss of a sale does not hurt their bottom line. I worked in Auto retail, and did this on numerous occasions. And one other point, a lot of chain stores (like CompUSA) have polacies that if a customer buys something today, then it goes on sale tomarrow (usually up to 2 weeks), the customer can bring their reciept in for the difference. Telling a customer that it will be selling for less in 2-3 days saves paperwork and hassel for the sales staff and the customer.

People like you are few and far between. I should be less cynical but I've seen stores like wal-mart that are all flags and smiley faces on the surface but could care less about the customer at the end of the day.
