Having been working in software validation industry for a long time now, I understand the word "Audit" in the software environment is that software manufacturers will provide an auditor access to source codes ONLY at their facility, not give the auditor the source code. They can spend days and months at software company facilities to look through the source codes, software life cycle or validation documents but no documents will leave the facility. This is for transparent practice in doing business and Apple is not stupid to give away their intellectual propriety, but complying with the law only.
In worst case scenario, Apple can even pull the fck out of China and will see what China can deal with iPhone smugglers. Vietnam, Thailand and other South East Asia countries are more than willing to let Apple in their country with less regulations.
Apple won't pull out of China considering the boatload of money they just made over the holiday season. I'd be impressed if Tim Cook had the stones to fold up the tent and leave.
    Money is money.

Yep, not going to happen. At best it is a poker game and Apple holds all the cards.

Yup, they will sell us out, just like all the other 'American' business owners have done over the last 20 years.  Money and cheap labor is all that matters to them.

Screw those fascists. Ban Chinese imports. All of them.

    Nixon totally screwed us.

On a more serious note, I doubt that Apple has much to give away. If the company's prior statements are to be believed -- and I think they are -- there is not much of a 'backdoor' to worry about with the iPhone, and therefore not a great deal of source code to share.

China is likely to get hoisted on its own petard on this one: I can see foreign governments demanding that Chinese companies like Huawei (telecom equipment), Lenovo, and Xiaomi share the source code for their 'backdoors'.

Most foreign governments already ban Chinese maker products for their use on accusation alone, they skipped checking source code entirely.

    Most? That's a mighty exaggeration.

Unless, of course, you can share with us the list of nearly 100+ countries that you claim do this.

At least China's upfront about spying on it's own citizens unlike the people in DC...

In hindsight, Google seems to have saved themselves a lot of future headaches when they pulled out of China a few years ago.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Eastern European mafia types.  If you're an average Chinese citizen, do you want to put your money in a bank that's going to be such an obvious honey pot for financial theft?

Not in China. The Chinese government holds all the cards.

Or just have a specific model for China....plain and simple that way only the Chinese models would have the Backdoor while other countries wil not since spying is so important to the Chinese gov......bc its bullshit that because of one gov we would all loose iOS security...And if the Chinese have anything to say about it they shoul take it upon their government for requiring them....

Apple develops an improved programming language.  Google copied Java.  Everything you need to know, right there.

AT&T believes their LTE coverage is adequate

I could not agree more with your post : "If govts have...backdoors, so will hackers." THE TRUTH!

Where I get totally lost is in your signature line: " Apple develops an improved programming language.  Google copied Java.  Everything you need to know, right there." What I don't get is "Apple develops improved prog lang." Apple did in fact develop Object Pascal, Dylan, and now Swift as well as having an arms length influence on Java by developing Schmucker and Cox (the Java language development group said so at an early WWDC) and having Schmucker on the payroll for a while. I simply don't see how any of this has any relation to Google or China.

As for Apple providing China with anything more than a ppt - it would be absurd, no matter what the size of the market to give away all the good will Apple.

Google co-opted Java (which, as an erstwhile Java programmer, I would opine has far more than its fair share of faults) for Android.  Eric Schmidt was (a) very familiar with the language and APIs and (b) too afraid to roll out his own language and associated APIs for Android, afraid that nobody would develop for it.  Compare and contrast that to the work that is happening at Apple with Swift as a first-class programming language for OSX and iOS...

As far as what Java and Swift have in relation to the topic of China, it's part of my signature here at AI, so it's at the bottom of all of my posts.  I'll probably get around to changing in the next year or so.  Truth is, I forget its there sometimes.  <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

Neither was designed to revolutionize Android development, from what I can tell.  But I'm all for pushing boundaries forward when it comes to programming languages.

The helluvit is that C# even was a step forward compared to Java, though C#'s tight integration with .NET is as much a curse as a blessing IMO.  Who knows, maybe that will get some much needed love in its next life as an open source project?
